St. Cloud COP House Back to School Events - The St. Cloud COP (Community Outpost) House is hosting two back-to-school events. On Monday, Aug. 28, they are offering free haircuts for kids at the house on 600 13th St. S in St. Cloud. Boys are from noon-4 p.m. and girls from 2:30-6 p.m., and space is limited so come early. On Tuesday, Aug. 29 from 3-5 p.m. they are hosting a backpack giveaway. Each backpack contains school supplies and will be handed out until they run out. St. Joseph Lions Brat Sale - The St. Joseph Y2K Lions Club is hosting a brat sale fundraiser to benefit BBBS of Central Minnesota! On Friday and Saturday, Aug. 25-26, the group will be selling brats outside the St. Joseph Meat Market (26 1st Ave NW, St. Joseph), and all proceeds come back to BBBS. The sale runs from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday in St. Joe.

Paynesville Air Show - Head to the Paynesville airport on Saturday, Aug. 26, for the Friends of the Paynesville Airport Air Show. There are free air shows at 1 and 4 p.m. that day as well as concessions and vendors with food and goods for sale. There will also be airplane rides available for a fee. Get Artsy at Oak Station - O n Wednesday, Aug. 23, head to Oak Station Coffee & Cone in Freeport for a night of art and tasty treats! From 6-8 p.m. bring your favorite art supplies for a creative evening. All ages are welcome and there will be a loosely guided direction for artistic inspiration. Dino Dig at Wilson Park - Budding paleontologists have the opportunity to take part in a 'Dino Dig' with the St. Cloud Park and Rec department and St. Cloud State University! On Saturday, Sept. 23, children ages 4-6 can participate in a mini 'dino dig' and learn more about fossils and dinosaurs! The event starts at 9 a.m. at Wilson Park in St. Cloud. Bannockburn Farm Fun - Every Monday and Tuesday through the month of August, community-based matches are welcome to head to Bannockburn Farm in Cold Spring to play in the dirt! The farm is open from 5:30-7:30 p.m., and if matches come to weed or help harvest veggies for an hour, they will receive a $5 token to spend at the vegetable stand. Stars & S'Mores - On Saturday, Nov. 4, the St. Cloud State College of Science and Engineering is partnering with St. Cloud Park & Rec to host Stars & S'mores. From 8-9:30 p.m., kids of all ages and families can come learn about the night sky, make your own planisphere, and look through a telescope to see the stars and planets. It's back-to-school season in Central Minnesota, but so much learning happens outside of the classroom. This fall, BBBS of Central Minnesota needs to recruit 100 new adult mentors by Sept. 15! There are currently more than 160 kids on the waiting list for a mentor, so we need your help. You can teach a local youth to fish, play an instrument, change a tire, draw - just a few hours each month would be a BIG deal to these waiting youth!
