Juneteenth x Pride -
Celebrations of Freedom and its Intersectionality
| |
|
Monday, June 17, 2024 |
12:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m.
| |
Join us! Juneteenth x Pride - Celebrations of Freedom and its Intersectionality, presented by Racial Justice Taskforce, American Constitution Society (ACS), Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedom (BALIF), Charles Houston Bar Association (CHBA), California Association of Black Lawyers (CABL), NBA Region IX, CLA Litigation Section, and the CLA DEI Committee. Join us for a program reviewing the history and intersectionality of Juneteenth and Pride. As we celebrate Juneteenth and Pride - celebrations of resistance, resilience, and reclamation - a panel of Black LGBTQ+ legal professionals will reflect on what this intersectionality means to them. Acknowledging that this is a challenging time for members of the Black LGBTQ+ communities, especially for transgender and gender non-conforming people, we will explore topics of concern and ways that attorneys can be better allies or advocates for our clients. All allies welcome!

FBANC 44th Gala: Moving Forward
|
Friday, June 14, 2024 | 6:00pm
The San Francisco Design Center Galleria 101 Henry Adams Street
San Francisco, CA
| |
|
In celebration of our 44th year, the Filipino Bar Association of Northern California (“FBANC”) graciously invites you to join us at our annual Installation Gala at the San Francisco Design Center Galleria on Friday, June 14, 2024.
For over four decades, FBANC has cultivated a network of over 400 Filipino American attorneys and law students. Our members exhibit excellence in their roles as lawyers and advocates, all while volunteering valuable time towards community service, participating in premier professional development, and building bonds of mentorship with law students aspiring to be change-makers within the legal profession.
The theme for FBANC 44 is Moving Forward. There is an important distinction between “moving on” and “moving forward” - the former implies leaving something behind, while the latter focuses on thoughtfully and resiliently carrying the most formative parts of our history with us. Along with celebrating our personal and shared experiences of struggle and perseverance, this theme also represents our organization's continued commitment to providing impactful programming, support, and service to the Filipino community and its members.
At the Gala, distinguished speakers and awardees joining us for the evening include the Hon. Marlo Nisperos (Judge, Solano County Superior Court), Mona Tawatao (Legal Director, Equal Justice Society), and Bryan Pangilinan (Composer & Executive Producer, Larry the Musical: An American Journey). Cast members from Larry The Musical will also be performing original songs during the gala, and there will be a dance floor and live DJ music playing throughout the night.
Additionally, FBANC will award the 4th annual William R. Tamayo Community Grant to one of its community partners, and the FBANC Foundation will be awarding 10 student scholarships, altogether totaling almost $50,000. These financial feats are in no small part made possible by your continued allyship, aid, and support of FBANC.
We look forward to celebrating with you at the Gala this June!

Deadline to Apply: July 19, 2024
August 7- August 9, 2024
Washington, D.C.

Applications for the LGBTQ+ Bar’s 2024 Judicial Nuts & Bolts Academy are open! The Academy will be held in conjunction with the 2024 Lavender Law® Conference & Career Fair on Thursday, August 8 from 2:00 – 5:30pm Eastern Time. Only registered Conference attendees who are seriously seeking a seat on a local, state, or federal bench seat within the next three years are eligible to attend the Academy.
The LGBTQ+ Bar’s Nuts & Bolts Academy for Judicial Candidates seeks to provide interested legal professionals with the tools they need to end up on the other side of the bench. This intensive workshop welcomes legal professionals from all backgrounds and parts of the country, and particularly encourages attorneys of color, transgender attorneys, and women attorneys to participate. The LGBTQ+ Bar believes diverse perspectives bring diverse experiences to the bench – and diverse experiences lead to better judgments.
Attorneys seeking a seat on a local, state, or federal bench within the next three years are welcome to apply. The deadline for applications is July 19, 2024. Read more about our faculty and apply here.
The final list of judicial faculty will be announced in the coming weeks. Many thanks to our esteemed faculty of judges and to the International Association of LGBTQ+ Judges for partnering with us on this annual Academy!

“Lavender Law® in general is just such a wonderful part of the LGBTQ+ Bar’s work. Conversations are just easy there. There is something so special about being surrounded by so many other other ‘out’ attorneys. It is only in a space like that when you realize how much you have to hold back in other spaces or how much you carry as an LGBTQ+ professional. It is very refreshing to be around other LGBTQ+ attorneys.” Julie Rooney, Deputy General Counsel & Head of U.S. Privacy at OpenX and LGBTQ+ Bar Member.
Register for Lavender Law® and join us for the largest gathering of LGBTQ+ legal professionals in North America!
