The Chamber is accepting nominations for the Awards that will be presented at the October 3 Annual Awards Gala. Seven awards will be presented to outstanding businesses, organizations and members of our community.

David K. Goodman Jr. Community Service Award - This award recognizes an individual organization who has demonstrated exemplary dedication of time or resources for the betterment of the community. This award is sponsored by Huntingdon Elks Lodge #976.

Customer Service Award - The purpose of this award is to recognize a business for their excellence in providing quality customer service. This award is sponsored by the Bonney Forge Corp.

Business of the Year Award - The purpose of this award is to recognize a business which has contributed to the economic growth of the community and has helped to develop Huntingdon County. This award is sponsored by Valley Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc.

Educator of the Year Award - The purpose of this award is to recognize an active educator in the county who has demonstrated "above and beyond" commitment and service in the field of education. This award is sponsored by Juniata College.

Entrepreneurial Success Award - The purpose of this award is to recognize a community member who has been in business for a minimum of three years, who individually owns and operates a business initially launched as a small business who has shown innovation and aided in the advancement of the community. This award is sponsored by Cassville Country Store and Restaurant.

Volunteer of the Year Award - This award recognizes a Chamber member for "above and beyond" service to the Chamber. This individual must be a Chamber member of work for a Chamber business and demonstrate support of the mission and goals of the Chamber. This award is sponsored by Arize Federal Credit Union.

ATHENA Award - This award is presented to a woman or man who is recognized for professional excellence, community service, and for actively assisting women in their attainment of professional excellence and leadership skills. State's Permitting Process Reformed Under Newly Enacted Budget

Pennsylvania's newly enacted fiscal year 2024-2025 budget includes regulatory reform efforts supported by State Sen. Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-93) that aim to cut government red tape. "This is a major win for the future of our commonwealth," Phillips-Hill said in a July 11 statement. "By cutting through the red tape, we're not only supporting our current businesses and communities but also laying the groundwork for future growth and prosperity in Pennsylvania." As part of the amendments to the state's Fiscal Code, the new budget that was signed into law on July 10 by Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shaprio overhauls the permitting process for land, air, and water-related permits required by the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and county conversation districts for development. "I am tired of losing jobs and economic opportunity to other states because Pennsylvania's regulatory delays are too burdensome and make us uncompetitive," said Phillips-Hill, state Senate Majority Caucus Chair. "This effort will ensure that, regardless of whoever occupies the governor's mansion or serves in the legislature, Pennsylvania is always open for business."

Victim of unemployment fraud?

Criminals using stolen identities filed claims for unemployment compensation in other people's names. Because unemployment compensation is taxable, state unemployment agencies submit Forms 1099-G to individuals in whose names and Social Security numbers the unemployment compensation was paid and to the IRS. Victims of fraud who receive Forms 1099-G with inaccurate amounts of unemployment compensation in Box 1 should notify the state agencies of the inaccuracies and request corrected Forms 1099-G. Taxpayers should only report income they actually received on their tax returns. Do not report income you did not receive. The IRS offers tax guidance to victims at https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/identity-theft-and-unemployment-benefits.
