Stay Tuned for Pumpkin Palooza 2022!

The Pumpkin Palooza is coming up next week! This online fundraiser will run from October 18 to November 18, covering an entire month of team building, individual fundraising, tips and tricks for meeting your fundraising goals, and prizes for the top team and individual fundraisers. Stay tuned for an email this Thursday explaining how the fundraiser works, how you can get involved as an individual or team, and how you can become the top fundraiser!

Update to Professionals Support Group Schedule

Our Professionals Support Group schedule is changing! Instead of meeting every Friday, we will be changing to a twice-per-month schedule on the first and third Friday of the month, meeting from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. ET on Zoom. Please note: if you have attended in the past, the existing Zoom link will no longer work, and you will need to re-register on Zoom at the linked button below. We hope you can join us and other professionals working in the IDD field to vent, talk about current challenges, as well as receive encouragement and support in a safe, nonjudgmental forum. Brought to you in partnership with the Regional Autism Advisory Council of Southwest Ohio.

Are you planning to attend the Possibilities for Diverse Abilities Family Fall Festival and Disability Resource Fair? It’s happening on Saturday, October 22 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. ET at the Heidt Center of Excellence (4550 Red Bank Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45227). PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT

Teen Time Hangouts Are Every Friday!

Teen Time Hangouts is a social program for teens aged 13-17 on the autism spectrum. If your teen is interested in socializing with others their age, then they are welcome to join us for conversation, games, and fun while we build friendships with other teens. We have Teen Time every Friday online, but on the second Friday of the month, Teen Time is only in-person at Linden Grove School (4122 Myrtle Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45236) from 10 a.m. till 12 p.m. ET.

 

The next in-person meeting is this Friday, October 14. If your teen is joining us, make sure to register at www.tinyurl.com/TeenTimeatLGS, which will make sure you receive the appropriate emails with specific information on location, attendance, and expectations. Registration for in-person Teen Time is required each month. For in-person sessions, pizza and water will be provided for teens. Parents are encouraged to stay at the program for the first half-hour, and are required to stay for the duration of the program if their kid has high support needs. If your teen is interested in going to Teen Time online, make sure to register to receive a Zoom link and passcode at www.tinyurl.com/TeenTimeOnline. Registration for online Teen Time is only required once.

Surviving and Thriving: Your Toolkit

for a Successful School Year

The Regional Autism Advisory Council (RAAC) of Southwest Ohio is hosting a two-day series on Surviving and Thriving: Your Toolkit for a Successful Schoolyear. These are virtual or in-person sessions, covering many training topics (with CEUs available) on Thursday, October 13 and Friday, October 14 from 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. ET at the Xavier University Health United Building (1723 Cleneay Avenue, Norwood, OH 45212). These sessions are ideal for all school personnel, especially those who support students for disabilities, caregivers, and other supports. Great Oaks Project SEARCH Transitional Program

Project SEARCH is a one-year transition-to-work program that prepares students with disabilities for employment. The immersive workplace training program combines classroom instruction, career exploration, and hands-on learning through actual business partner worksite rotations. Project SEARCH provides students with disabilities real-life work experience and employability training. Students also learn about independent-living skills needed to a successful transition to adult life. Students who complete the program can find employment in career paths that match their skills and interests, since it provides students with a variety of worksite experiences.

 

During the school year, students rotate through three non-paid internship sites to learn work skills needed for the world of work. The goal of Project SEARCH is that students will find and maintain competitive employment. The program is designed for students who are graduating or have already graduated from high school, with these eligibility criteria:

  • Is 18 – 21 years old
  • Student has an Individualized Education Program (IEP)
  • Student has met all academic requirements for graduation
  • Student needs extended learning services to prepare for transitioning to employment while diploma is held by school
  • Student qualifies for services with Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD)
  • Student is able and willing to follow all host site employee guidelines
  • Students is able to pass site background checks
  • Student has updated immunizations per site requirements
  • Designed for students in the last year of school services in order to lead to employment

 

Eligible students should attend an onsite open house in November, information about which can be found by clicking the flyer above.
