Liz Hanson from  When Life Gives  You Lemons has been a
popular lemonade vendor at our Summer Farmers' Market for years,
but we weren't sure that sales would be very good when she
suggested participating in a Winter Market.  Boy, were we wrong!
Thirsty shoppers lined up for her fresh citrus drink, made-to-order
and topped with the fruit and herbs of your choice.

In his New York Times Bestseller, Tomatoland, "Barry Estabrook  traces the supermarket tomato from its birthplace in the deserts of Peru to the impoverished town of Immokalee, Florida. He visits seedsmen trying to develop varieties that can withstand the rigors of agribusiness and still taste like a garden tomato, and then moves on to commercial growers who operate on tens of thousands of acres, and eventually to a hillside field in Pennsylvania, where he meets an obsessed farmer who produces delectable tomatoes for the nation's top restaurants," says Politics of the Plate.

"In his new book, Pig Tales, Estabrook explores the dark side of the American pork industry. Drawing on his personal experiences raising pigs as well as his keen investigative reporting, Estabrook shows how these immensely intelligent creatures are too often subjected to lives of suffering, but also presents a lively portrait of those farmers who are taking an alternative approach, proving that it is possible to raise pigs responsibly and respectfully in a way that is good for producers, consumers, and some of the top chefs in America."

Barry will join us to chat about tomatoes, pigs and answer your questions while signing books (copies are available for purchase).
He lives on a 30-acre tract in Vermont where he gardens,
tends a dozen laying hens, taps maple trees,
and brews hard  cider from his own apples.

The Wayland Market has three vendors that carry pork products: Codman Community Farm with Pete & Jen's Backyard Birds,
Laszlo Family Farm and Lilac Hedge Farm.

Celeste Croxton-Tate (left, with her BFF Vanessa) from Lyndigo Spice works two jobs, we learned from reading Tara Taft's article in Edible Boston about the maker  of chutney, relish, fruit spread and spice rub.  " During the day Celeste cooks, but at night, she is a Boston police officer.  She currently works the night shift, and cooking is how she decompresses from the stresses of her job," reports Taft.

Sample her products and add some spice to your life.
