I-70 Picadilly Interchange Construction Updates

Please be alert – don’t follow trucks into the work zone. Trucks will be exiting off eastbound I-70 and directly into a temporary work zone, west of Colfax Avenue (Exit 288). Slowing to below 45 m.p.h. near the railroad bridge east of the Tower Road interchange, they will then exit onto the shoulder to enter the work area.

Traffic should be cautious of the slowing and exiting trucks, and never follow them into the work zone.

Routine Yearly Road Maintenance Work

Aurora’s roadway maintenance programs are designed to provide safe travel conditions throughout the city and preserve the city’s investment in roadway infrastructure. Annual programs are developed to apply the appropriate maintenance strategy at the appropriate time in the roadway’s life cycle.

This year's annual street maintenance map is now available.

REGIONAL PARTNER CONSTRUCTION UPDATES

Metro Water Recovery

As part of ongoing and routine wastewater treatment system maintenance, Metro Water Recovery is rehabilitating segments of corroded pipe within Aurora. Construction for this critical infrastructure will be limited to brief disturbances at 11 bypass locations. Short-term road closures and/or traffic detours may be needed along bypass pumping routes.

Affected locations in 2024 may be viewed on the project website.

East Colfax Bus Rapid Transit

The city and county of Denver, in partnership with RTD, the city of Aurora and CDOT, is moving forward with Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) on East Colfax Avenue. This project is intended to move more people more efficiently and more safely along the Colfax Corridor.

Based on available funding, East Colfax BRT construction is slated to begin in 2024 (or 2025 in Aurora), with the system operating starting in early 2027. Buses will run down center transit lanes in Denver and on side-running transit lanes in Aurora. The city of Aurora negotiated an intergovernmental agreement with Denver to fund the design and construction of BRT elements along the Aurora portion of Colfax.

For more information on the project, visit DenverGov.org/ColfaxBRT.
