A Message from Heidi Wingo,

Executive Director

Hello Mary Anne,

August, to me, always feels like a busy time of year. As the days of summer drift away, the streets begin to bustle with fair-goers and back-to-school shoppers.

Here at Hospice of the Foothills, we are busy moving forward with a few big staff changes. With the retirement of our longtime Medical Director, Dr. Kronland last month, we have welcomed Dr. Reed Dopf and Dr. Brandi Kindig. While Dr. Dopf has been with us for many years as our Associate Medical Director, Dr. Kindig is a new, welcome addition to the team. We look forward to you getting to know them as they start to work closely with this amazing community.

Outside my windows, I am noticing a few red leaves starting to appear. A sign that a new season is slowing coming about. I can’t help but think of how this is very much in line with our journey at Hospice of the Foothills. With a few more staff changes and other exciting things to share this fall, I look forward to supporting this amazing team in our very own season of change.

With gratitude,

Heidi Wingo

Welcome Dr. Reed Dopf, Medical Director

Hospice of the Foothills is pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. Reed Dopf from Assistant Medical Director to Medical Director, effective July 31st. This transition follows the retirement of Dr. Rene Kronland, who served with excellence and dedication for 16 years. While we will miss Dr. Kronland, Dr. Dopf has worked alongside her for the past 13 years so we expect a seamless transition.

Hospice of the Foothills Executive Director, Heidi Wingo states, "Dr. Dopf has been an invaluable part of our team as Associate Medical Director for over 13 years, and we are thrilled to see him step into this expanded role. He has come to deeply love this community, and will build closer relationships with other providers in town, as well as with our donors and community members.”

Dr. Dopf is a distinguished board-certified physician in Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Dr. Dopf completed his medical training at the University of Nevada School of Medicine, has spent 14 years serving as a clinician, educator, administrator, and business owner across California and Northern Nevada. With his extensive background and dedication to patient care, he has earned a reputation for excellence in his field.

“I am deeply honored to take on this role and continue to support our patients and families with the same dedication and care that has been the cornerstone of Hospice of the Foothills. I look forward to working with our talented team to further our mission of providing unparalleled hospice and palliative care to this unique community,” said Dr. Dopf.

Raised in the scenic Sierra Mountains and born in Carson City, Nevada, Dr. Dopf is a well-respected figure in our community. He balances his professional journey with a fulfilling personal life alongside his husband, Jacob Bush, and their three spirited fur babies. If you see them around town, please feel free to say hello.

Welcome Dr. Brandi Kindig,

Assistant Medical Director

Dr. Brandi Kindig has joined us as Assistant Medical Director, working closely with Dr. Dopf.

Dr. Kindig grew up in Gardnerville, Nevada, but used to visit Grass Valley as a child, so she is very happy to return! She has been an internal medicine hospitalist for the last 15 years, and has been transitioning out of that toward hospice work over the last year and a half, with Premiere Hospice Physicians.

Dr. Kindig is now taking the leap to work full-time with Dr. Dopf and do the work she loves.

Dr. Kindig adds, "My husband Tony and I have two beautiful twin 12-year-old daughters who are avid competitive rock climbers, which takes up most of our free time and trip plans. I am so happy to be joining the team at Hospice of the Foothills."

Help us welcome Dr. Brandi Kindig to the team!

Pet Therapy Program

Hospice of the Foothills is pleased to be affiliated with Alliance of Therapy Dogs to provide our patients with Animal Assisted Therapy.

Therapy dogs and their handlers are specially trained, evaluated, and registered through Alliance of Therapy Dogs or Pet Partners.

We currently have two trained therapy dogs in our volunteer program that work with patients to provide therapy animal visits to those interested in the various physical, social, and emotional health benefits of the human-animal bond.

Teams are on site for up to two hours and anyone is welcome to interact with these special animals. When visiting a patient in a care facility, many other residents enjoy the benefits of the dogs' visits as well.

Currently, our two Therapy Dogs are Beanie (left) and Nahkaito (above). They are both very sweet and our patients are really enjoying their visits!
