August is National Breastfeeding Month

August 1 to August 7 is National Breastfeeding Week! As we recognize National Breastfeeding Week, let's come together to celebrate the incredible journey of breastfeeding and its vital role in nurturing healthy families. This annual observance shines a spotlight on the countless benefits of breastfeeding for both infants and mothers, including improved health outcomes, stronger bonding, and economic advantages.

This year's theme emphasizes support for all and education, recognizing that a well-informed and supported breastfeeding experience can make all the difference. We encourage everyone to engage in conversations, share resources, and support local breastfeeding initiatives. By fostering an inclusive and informed community, we can help ensure that all families have the support they need to thrive.

Join us in celebrating the strength, dedication, and love that breastfeeding represents. Together, we can empower families and promote a healthier future.

Lucy Collazo and Michelle Jackson

On July 10th, we celebrated our second annual doula appreciation brunch, and it was a fantastic success! The event was a heartwarming morning of community and reflection, where we took the time to celebrate the remarkable milestones we’ve achieved together since our doula program began in May 2022. We’re proud to have served nearly 140 clients, offering essential support and nurturing to families across Martin County.

At the brunch, we were thrilled to honor three of our exceptional doulas for their outstanding contributions:

Most Births Under Healthy Start: Awarded to Lucy Collazo who has supported the highest number of births within our program.

Most Likely to Succeed: Celebrating Michelle Jackson whose dedication and potential have shone brightly.

Advocacy Award: Recognizing Hillary Cruz who has shown exceptional commitment to advocating for the needs and rights of our families.

In addition to these celebrations, we’re excited to share that two of our bilingual Spanish-speaking doulas, Lucy Collazo and Michelle Jackson, were invited to participate in a Spinning Babies training hosted by the Indian River Healthy Start Coalition. This advanced training provides them with innovative techniques to support optimal fetal positioning and ensure smoother labor experiences, enhancing the care we deliver to our clients.
