The Stoop Storytelling Series is a Baltimore-based live show and podcast that features "ordinary" people sharing the extraordinary, true tales of their lives. The mission of The Stoop is to build community through the sharing of personal stories. Stoop stories are not memorized, performed, or read. They're shared.
Stoop shows are intimate and surprising, wonderful and weird, hilarious and heartbreaking.

Have you ever wondered who lived on the spot where you live now, oh say 200 years ago? Come to Todd’s to see exhibits and hear Professor Glenn Johnston explain who lived where on Patapsco Neck at the time of the Battle of Patapsco Neck (aka North Point) and how the battle affected them. Dr. Johnston and a team of student researchers from Stevenson University used a grant from the American Battlefield Protection Program to dig up and synthesize all sorts of existing documentation to learn the names, places of residence, number of people who lived at each residence (free and slave), how much land they worked, what other means they used to support themselves, and many, many more facets of their lives. In addition, eight informational exhibits that will be throughout the house, and Dr. Johnson will present a PowerPoint talk on the research and its findings at 1 p.m.

Living History Program

| On Saturday, August 31, we're holding a Living History program, featuring our Museum staff portraying firefighters from the past. Ben Franklin will join us too. The Wheelmen, a hi-wheel bicycle group, will also be on hand. The program starts at 11 am, and all the extras are included with visitors' paid admission. |
Honoring Our Heros Motor Muster

| The Fire Museum will hold its annual Honoring our Heroes Motor Muster. Our front parking lot will be filled with motorized fire apparatus for families to enjoy. Take a ride on a real fire engine! The Motor Muster and admission to the Museum are free on September 7 thanks to the support of the Citizens of Baltimore County. The Museum is open from 10 - 4. The Muster runs from 10 - 3. |
Defenders' Day Celebration at Todd's Inheritance

Todd's Inheritance will host a Cavalcade of War of 1812 reenactors and other dignitaries from Fort McHenry and elsewhere, as they commemorate the 210th anniversary of the British land invasion of Baltimore. The Cavalcade will start at Todd's at 11 am to commemorate the British burning of the Todd farm. Many living historians will be on the Todd grounds to interpret the invasion and display uniforms, drill, blank musket firings, fife and drum music, and the like. The cavalcade will depart at 2 PM.
Historical Society of Baltimore County
In honor of Maryland Defenders' Day, this joint offering of HSBC and Todd's Inheritance will offer tours of the site to groups of HSBC members and patrons in small groups throughout the day. Please feel free to come for any portion of the time that you like.

BCPSfest
And look for our staff at the Baltimore County Public Schools' BCPSfest at the George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology in Towson. It's a super popular event and we're always happy to help students and staff get excited for back-to-school.
Extended summer hours at the Fire Museum of Maryland continue through the end of August. The Museum is open every Wednesday through Saturday from 10 - 4 all summer long. In September, the Museum returns to its winter schedule of Saturdays only from 10 - 4. Tickets at the door.

War of 1812 expert and reenactor Ed Seufert will give a talk on what military measures the Marylanders took on the lower Patapsco Neck before, during and after the British invasion, especially what new research has revealed about American entrenchments at modern day Edgemere (about where the Senior Center is today, west to Bear Creek).
Todd House and grounds close at 3 p.m. Tours available.

Extended Public Visiting Hours
Beginning June 21, the Museum's new public visiting schedule will be Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, 10:30am to 3:30pm.
Open Cockpit Day & Car Show
The Glenn L. Martin Maryland Aviation Museum has begun accepting car showcase entries for its Open Cockpit Day & Car Show fundraiser on Saturday, September 21, 10am to 2:30pm. Rain date is September 28. Showcase your vehicle at this family-friendly event by registering, beginning July, at www.mdairmuseum.org.

Marshy Point Nature Center Council would like to welcome our new Archaeology Ambassador, Jessica Brannock, to our team! Jessica's education and professional background as an archaeologist within the private and public sectors makes her a perfect fit. She will be a great addition to work in conjunction with our Research Chair to advance our knowledge of the history at Marshy Point. She will also promote the proper methods and techniques used by archaeologists based on her background education through our future programs held by council volunteers. | |
Marshy Point Nature Center Council would also like to thank our Principal Investigator, Katharine Fernstrom Ph.D., and the Central Chapter of the Archeological Society of Maryland for their work on our current site, Cassandor Hamilton (18BA623). Katharine will be reporting on site progress in the near future and continuing to strengthen the Central Chapter of the ASM in membership, business structure, and their understanding of Baltimore City and County archaeology resources, including the area of Marshy Point. We wish her the best with those goals.

Who is BCHN?
The Baltimore County Heritage Network was formed in 2022, supported by a grant from the Maryland Center for History and Culture’s Miller History Fund. This collaboration of small history organizations around Baltimore County allows us to share our combined strengths. We hope to increase the sustainability and public awareness of our member organizations. More than that we hope to spread our love of our local history and its amazing stories to more people in our region.
