Black Nite Rising Historic Landmark Ceremony

MPA was thrilled to be a community partner for the dedication of Wisconsin's first LGBTQ historic landmark on August 5th with the Wisconsin LGBTQ History Project.

Board members Zachary and Chelsey pictured with MPA ED, Emma.

You may have seen our geotechnical engineers on site a few weeks ago - they’re taking soil samples to better understand the composition and stability of the ground under the tavern and will be working with our structural engineer to develop a safe, effective stabilization plan.

Thanks to Beane Engineering and Berglund Construction for their continued work on this phase!

Want to keep informed as the Tavern Project unfolds? We’ll post updates as often as they happen on our website!

ADVOCACY

MPA has been out and about, meeting with other likewise minded organizations to better strengthen our ties to the greater Milwaukee Community, including Near West Side Partners and Urban Ecology Center!

Keep an eye out - the Friends of the Domes vision plan is being unveiled at the next County Board Meeting (which may have already happened when you’re reading this!) on September 3rd. MPA will of course be there to support and encourage the county to approve the plan.

Have you used our new Advocacy Form yet?

Do you have a building in your neighborhood under threat? That's historic? That's important to you? Tell us about it!

Office Updates

We've been working hard behind the scenes to better serve our membership and the community. Some things we've been working on:

  • We've partnered with Insect Hobby Design, a Milwaukee local, to bring a fresh take to MPA's branding and website
  • We recently wrapped up our 5+ year Strategic Plan with Square Root Consulting and are ready to get to work!

We thank you for your continued support and assure you, even when things are a little quiet, we’re working hard to make preservation mainstream in Milwaukee!

MPA had the honor of meeting with a team of VA historians, archivists, and foundation members out of the DC office to discuss the latest work on the grounds (Chapel, Theater, and Governor's Mansion) and MPA's involvement.

September Soldiers Home Tours are all sold out! Your last chance to tour the incredible Soldiers Home Grounds and Old Main will be at this year's FREE Door's Open tour, however registration is required. (Member tickets open September 4th, public tickets available on September 11th.)
