From Ancient Rome to the Silver Lake Lead Mine: Rethinking History
The Friends of Madison will be hosting From Ancient Rome to the Silver Lake Lead Mine: Rethinking History, presented by David and Ann Wilkins, on Tuesday, August 13 at 7pm in the Chick Room.
As teachers whose combined careers add up to 112 years, David and Ann thought long and hard about how to bring history, art, and architecture to life. Asking new and different questions — wondering about context, bringing out the unrecognized roles women have played, recognizing popular culture, and studying those who paid for the art — have all helped.
Rome's Colosseum, Leonardo's Mona Lisa, the Silver Lake Mine, New Hampshire's Public Libraries, Frank Lloyd Wright's Zimmerman House in Manchester, and the works of contemporary artists Damian Hirst and Ai Weiwei will be among the examples included in their discussion.
All are welcome.
