Volume 4 |  August 11 2017
  Hello cosplayers and cosplay appreciators!

Welcome back to everyone who signed up for the newsletter last month! To those of you who are joining us for the first time, welcome and I hope you enjoy!

My name is Ariana Shae and am working with Bobbi Lynn to make high quality costumes for you guys and make some fun stuff for you to see on here!

In addition to costumes, we also design and create fun clothing and outfits for everyday wear. Many of these are inspired by video games or shows, so they are perfect for showing off your interests with a subtler approach!

We would also love to feature a section in our newsletter with you! If you want to show off pictures in our costumes, please send them to us! Also, if you make any costumes yourself, we would love to see it!  Just email us the picture and state that you would like it featured in our upcoming newsletter. If it isn’t our costume, please also tell us who to give the credit for making it.

We focus on the sewing part of costumes, so any prop making you guys do to complement our costumes would be amazing to see.  Enjoy our newsletter and happy cosplaying!

August's Project for you!
Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV) is a specialty vinyl that comes in colored sheets and can be used to add designs to fabric.
It is used often on T-shirts and sports jerseys.
We used HTV to make the red palm tree designs on this Hawaiian shirt based on the one worn by the Joker in Batman The Killing Joke.  If applied correctly, it is washer and dryer safe.

You do not need special equipment to use Heat Transfer Vinyl.  All you need is a pair of scissors and an iron.

Another must have for this project is parchment paper.

The front of the heat transfer vinyl is the shiny side with the plastic coating over it.  On the back, draw your design then cut it out.  I used a dress makers pencil which didn’t actually leave marks on the vinyl, just slid over and made an impression to cut by.  If it had left marks I would have wiped them off with a damp cloth so ink would not show up on the design.   Cut a mirror image when cutting from the back.

Place the cut out design on the fabric where you want it, shiny side up and iron in place.  Remove the plastic coating.  Now is when the parchment paper comes in handy.  The most common problem people have with HTV is with it peeling after washing. This is usually from not ironing it well enough, getting it hot enough to really fuse with the fabric.  Another problem could be the fabric you are using. We are using 100% cotton.

With a layer of parchment paper between your design and the iron, you can get the iron hotter and hold steady in each place longer without damaging anything.

The instructions on the HTV vinyl usually say to use a temperature of around 150 degrees celsius, about the polyester setting on your iron, but with the parchment paper layer you can heat up the iron to 200 degrees celsius, or around the cotton setting on your iron without causing damage.   Go over the design well with a hot iron and it will permanently adhere to your garment.

And here is the finished product!

Thank you for your interest in our business! I hope you enjoy our future newsletters and  products!

Even for those of you who do not plan to cosplay, I hope that Bobbi Lynn and I are able to provide you with fun projects and photos to look through.
