August News on the Route 7 Corridor Improvements Project

Issue 51 | August 2023

Along about seven miles of Route 7, we're adding a third lane and shared-use paths in each direction, building a pedestrian underpass to access Colvin Run Mill Park, replacing and raising the bridge over Difficult Run, and making many intersection, bicycle and pedestrian improvements. Learn more.

Construction Updates

In July, crews continued construction activities along the corridor:

Area 1: Reston Avenue to Colvin Forest Drive (Except Baron Cameron Avenue Intersection)

Completed noise barrier foundation drilling and started post and panel installation along eastbound Route 7 between Bishopsgate Way and Markell Court.
Continued drilling noise barrier foundations and started post and panel installation along eastbound Route 7 between Utterback Store Road and Bishopsgate Way.
Finished final surface paving for the left and center lanes on westbound Route 7 between Colvin Run Road (west) and Amanda Drive, and on eastbound Route 7 between Bishopsgate Way and Delta Glen Court.
Finished final surface paving for the right lane on eastbound Route 7 between Bishopsgate Way and Baron Cameron Avenue.

Area 2: Baron Cameron Avenue Intersection

Completed curb installation at the Baron Cameron Avenue intersection.

Area 3: Difficult Run Area (Colvin Forest Drive to Faulkner Drive

Poured the concrete barrier between the westbound Route 7 travel lanes and the shared use path on the Difficult Run bridge, completing all bridge construction over Difficult Run.

Area 4: Faulkner Drive to Jarrett Valley Drive

Completed final surface paving for the left and center lanes on eastbound Route 7 between Trap Road and Jarrett Valley Drive.
Continued storm sewer installation at Wolftrap Run Road.
Placed intermediate asphalt for Stage 3B between Difficult Run and Lyons Street, and between Towlston Road and Lucky Estates Drive.

Project-Wide

Third-party utility relocation activities are ongoing.
Continued fence installation at stormwater management ponds.
Continued grading, placement of stone and paving for the shared-use paths.

Work Continues Along Route 7

Construction activities will be ongoing along Route 7 during the final weeks of summer and into the fall. Surface paving will continue, and traffic pattern changes will occur in the Lewinsville Road area as part of the transition to the permanent configuration at the Route 7/Lewinsville Road intersection.
