Governor Tom Wolf Visits WTC Harrisburg
|
WTC Harrisburg was honored to host Governor Wolf and his team, as well as representatives from Moran Industries at our new offices on July 28th. This meeting highlighted the importance of trade assistance in Southcentral PA, and our commitment to support local exporters and importers. Senator Patty Kim, Deputy Secretary Sheri Collins, and several board members were also in attendance.

WTC Harrisburg Hosts Ontarian Delegation
|
Government officials and agri-food industry representatives from Ontario visited WTC Harrisburg in June to discuss NAFTA negotiations and strategies for improving both countries' food processing sector. Those in attendance included Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Jeff Leal, as well as senior policy advisors, marketing officers and Ontarian food processors. Joseph Burke, Deputy Secretary of the PA Department of Community & Economic Development, was also in attendance. This mission solidified the strong trade partnership between Pennsylvania and Ontario in the agriculture sector. |
Bringing the World to PA and ITAR

WTC Harrisburg will host an Export Controls Under the ITAR event at the Manufacturers' Association in York. This full-day event will help attendees comply with export requirements for munition items/defense articles, learn about new regulations, and better understand the classification process. | Fancy Food Show 2017 Recap |
On June 25th-27th, the Specialty Food Association hosted its annual Summer Fancy Food Show in NYC. WTC Harrisburg organized the PA pavilion in conjunction with the PA Office of International Business Development. The Pennsylvania pavilion consisted of twelve participants with five being from Southcentral PA. The Southcentral PA companies included:

| UPS X-Port Challenge 2017 |
UPS confirmed that it will be hosting its annual X-Port Challenge, where businesses, start-ups, and entrepreneurs from each district can compete for international export shipping totaling $10,000. Companies will be required to present their product and execution plan at the regional pitch-off, which will be held on October 26th at the WHYY conference center in Philadelphia. Three winners will be selected and invited to compete at the National Pitch-Off, where three companies will be awarded cash prices of $25,000, $15,000 and $10,000 respectively. | On June 15th, Harrisburg International Airport participated in a groundbreaking ceremony for a new Fairfield Inn & Suites that will be located on its property. The ceremony was attended by representatives from Shaner Hotels, High Construction, Dauphin County Commissioners, and Harrisburg International Airport. The hotel will feature 120 guest rooms, 1,600 square feet of meeting space, a fitness center, and a full-service bar. |
| On June 1st, Stevens & Lee/Griffin International LCC announced that it has partnered with the PA Chamber of Business and Industry to launch its International Trade Assistance Partnership Program (iTAPP). This program will provide member businesses with trade support in growing export sectors. iTAPP representatives are currently located in Brazil, Chile, Columbia, Peru and Japan and hope to soon expand to Europe and Africa. Member companies will receive a free interview to determine how iTAPP can best support their business, as well as a 20% reduction in the monthly fee for continual trade support within the targeted export sectors. |

| C.L. Sturkey Inc. and its CEO and president Chris Tarsa were recently profiled by Central Penn Business Journal. The news article praised Tarsa's business prowess, while also detailing the company's history, international growth, and commitment to remaining in Lebanon, PA. C.L. Sturkey Inc. plans to unveil a new product later this year which is expected to double the company's sales by 2018. |
| PA Business Mission to Israel |
The Philadelphia-Israel Chamber of Commerce will be leading a trade mission to Israel from September 10-15. This mission coincides with two trade shows: WATEC Israel, which centers on water technology and environmental control, and the mHealth Israel Conference on healthcare and innovation. Attendees may participate in the events most matching their trading interests and are welcome to schedule meetings in lieu of pre-arranged activities. A complete itinerary can be found online.

We are excited to have our third summer intern joining us this month.
Emad AlShaqaq plans to complete his degree from The Indiana University of Pennsylvania this summer, after which he will pursue a job in business management. As an international student from Saudi Arabia, Emad hopes to spend this summer researching trade agreements with the Middle East and the exporting services needed to make these partnerships succeed.
