Aloha Marci!
As we move into the final month of summer, Maui is the liveliest we've seen it all year. School is out, and summer breaks are wrapping up. However, August also brings a somber reflection as we approach the anniversary of the devastating fire that occurred on August 8, 2023, which destroyed over 2,200 buildings and claimed 102 lives.
To honor and commemorate those we lost and the heroes who stepped up that day, a paddle out is planned for August 8th in Lāhainā. This event, along with many other tributes and remembrances in the following days, will bring our community together in a spirit of support and reflection. With timelines and after-action reports now completed, new fire detection and prevention measures continue to roll out, demonstrating the county's commitment to moving forward.
Survivors have nearly all transitioned into mid- to long-term housing options, leaving behind the short-term hotel accommodations. Our community’s resilience and support for one another have been incredible. As we remember and honor the past, we also look forward with hope and positivity!
Warmest Aloha,
The Ali'i Resorts Ohana
