This year's Fine Arts calendars were mailed last week to all LT families. Be sure to check out the variety of events offered each and every month. Use the iCal feature offered via the LT website to export LT events to your personal calendar.
Help be a good neighbor. As both campuses are nestled in residential areas, please do your fair share to respect our neighbors, their homes and their lawns.

Remember to obey all signs and speed limits as well as seatbelt and no texting laws.
Extra copies of the Parent Teacher Council school calendar are available for $10, but you must be a PTC member first. Be sure to join by downloading the PTC membership form today. In addition to monthly email updates, members receive a calendar and a student directory. Extra directories are also available for an additional $10 each.
The annual Co-Curricular Night and Activity Fair is LT's best opportunity to learn about clubs, sports, activities and intramurals. The evening starts with an overview of LT's Code of Conduct, the expectations all students participating in athletics, activities and clubs beyond the classroom are held to. Students and parents are then invited to learn about the wide variety of clubs, activities and sports offered by LT. From Archery to Zoology and just about everything in between, LT has something to meet every interest. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, August 21, 7pm in the South Campus Fieldhouse, to see the more than 100 activities and clubs available to students.

FRESHMEN GLIMPSE LT BEFORE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

LT welcomed the class of 2023 before the first official day of the school year for Freshman Experience Day at South Campus. Freshman Experience Day is a great way for the incoming freshmen to get comfortable with a new school and with the idea of being a high school student at LT. This day is an LT tradition that makes the transition from middle school to high school a little bit easier.

The freshmen have South Campus all to themselves. They are divided into small groups all led by upperclassmen and supervised by an adult staff member. The small groups discuss LT traditions, along with what freshmen should expect the next four years of being an LT lion. They learn the school song, hear presentations from administrators, take part in team building activities, tour South Campus and enjoy a complimentary lunch in the main courtyard.

MURAL WELCOMES, APPRECIATES ALL AT LT
The mural pictured above is the first of a series of three  completed as part of Transition Academy, a one-week summer program that assists incoming Latino freshmen. The Academy helps with high school readiness, includes a literature component and focuses on student empowerment

For the first time, both the Hispanic Liaison and African American Liaison will be in one central space - South Campus B101 - and the mural is a great way to honor LT's diverse populations.

According to Hispanic Liaison Jorge Sanchez, "Murals have a strong history in Mexican culture. They have always been seen as a way to unite people and convey an important message. They are a symbol of community, and it was particularly important to create a mural that not only included students, but one that was created by students."

The mural includes five LT students - four graduated last year and one is currently a sophomore. It represents the beauty in diversity and the growth that one can experience from diversity. The mural also  represents our community; students need to understand that we're all different. Not only is it okay to be different, it is also beautiful, and it is the reason WE ARE LT.

LT art teacher Sam Zavala led the project, and students painted 95% of the mural themselves. Murals will be painted the next two summers.
MAJOR CHANGES TO ADVANCED PLACEMENT  REGISTRATION
All Advanced Placement (AP) students are required to enroll in their AP course online through  the College Board . Students will need their LT class schedule to do this.

For instructions on how to enroll:
Students will also need to refer to the list of  Join Codes  for all AP courses.  Join Codes are specific for class period and teacher.

In addition, between now and November, students must register and pay for each AP exam either through the LTHS webstore or through the Testing Office, North Campus Room 45.

Should you have any questions or concerns regarding these new procedures, please contact the Testing Office for  assistance at 708-579-6762.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR OPEN HOUSE
LT is hosting an Open House for parents interested in touring the high school facilities. The South Campus Open House is scheduled for 7pm Thursday, August 29, with a Freshman & New Family Welcome in the South Campus Fieldhouse immediately preceding from 6:15 - 6:45pm. The North Campus Open House is slated for the following week Thursday, September 5, at 7pm.

At Open House, parents can tour the building, go through an abbreviated form of their student's schedule and ask questions. Teachers will describe the course and their expectations of the class. Parents are also encouraged to meet their student's counselor and visit the Discovery Center for information regarding available technology services. Finally, various parent groups will be present to encourage membership participation or to sell merchandise and other items.
