Chattanooga Paddlefest
August 27 | 11:00 AM - 5:30 PM
We are so stoked to introduce Outdoor Chattanooga's inaugural Chattanooga Paddlefest this August. The Chattanooga Paddlefest is an organized recreational people-powered paddle event to celebrate Chattanooga as a cohort and river town of the Tennessee RiverLine partnership.

The Tennessee RiverLine, North America's next great regional trail system, flows through Chattanooga's vibrant downtown. This event provides a unique opportunity to paddle a 5.4 mile stretch of the Tennessee River, from Tennessee Riverpark to Ross' Landing and welcomes kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards to participate. Coordination with local rental companies provides additional opportunity to participate or bring your own paddle craft. Shuttles are provided to assist with parking logistics prior to the event start. Stick around afterwards for Riverfront Nights! Local food and drinks starts at 6:00; the music starts , and more!

The shuttle for the event will start at 11:00am and run until 1:00pm. We will paddle the river from 1:30pm until approximately 5:30pm. Click here for more details on the event and to reserve a boat!

Rapid Learning
Every Wednesday
First Session: 6pm-7pm
Second Session: 7pm-8pm

The summer has flown by and we are already into the last month of our summer Rapid Learning sessions! It has been a fantastic summer of paddling and we are excited to finish with a bang. Join us every Wednesday this August to learn all things whitewater. This program provides formal and equipped kayak instruction for beginner and seasoned kayakers to learn and develop the skills needed to safely and confidently paddle whitewater streams. From your first Rapid Learning skills development class to your first class III run, Outdoor Chattanooga's certified instructors will be right beside you offering instruction and encouragement. Start by attending our weekly Rapid Learning skills classes to learn essential skills and safe paddling techniques in the calm lake waters at Chester Frost State Park.
The classes are offered every Wednesday through August. Each week, there are two separate sessions. The first session goes from 6:00pm - 7:00pm and the second session is 7:00pm - 8:00pm. No reservations are required for either session and your first session is free! After that, you can pay $10 per session or sign up for an annual membership. Individual memberships are $75 for individuals or $125 for a family. The membership includes unlimited Rapid Learning sessions as well as discounts on our river trips.
After August, we will take a brief break from Rapid Learning classes. Starting in November, we begin our indoor pool classes at Southern Adventist University's Hulsey Wellness Center.
Outdoor Chattanooga provides equipment that you can borrow or you can bring your own equipment. All you will need to bring is athletic clothes, water shoes, and some stoke to learn about whitewater kayaking!

National Park Service Birthday
Thursday, August 25th
Mark your calendar for August 25th; the National Park Service is turning 106!

On June 30th, 1864, President Abraham Lincoln signed an act of Congress granting inalienable protections to the Yosemite Valley as a place of public use, resort and recreation. Over the next 50 years, similar protections would follow at other natural points of interest across the country including Yellowstone, Devils Tower, Zion, Acadia, and more. This culminated in 1916 when President Woodrow Wilson signed the act that created the National Park Service! Today, the National Park Service is comprised of 430 natural, historical, recreational, and cultural areas throughout the United States.

The National Park Service is celebrating its birthday both online and in the parks this year.
