President's Message - Judy Weston

FOLLOWING JESUS

Then Peter said to Jesus in reply, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” Matthew 17:4

It is without a doubt that this summer was a summer that you could feel and see the Holy Spirit move! The experience is difficult to put into simple words. The Eucharistic

Procession which came through Nebraska stirred the winds of recognizing Jesus in the Eucharist. As Jesus, in the monstrance, was carried through the streets, you felt the tug of your heart and knew you needed to be close to Him.

Faith Sharing Testimony

by Donna Havlat

Sundays are sacred and I often look forward to a slow day on the farm followed by a good meal with my husband--preferrably on the deck this time of year. Our faith sharing group time sounded like an interruption to my evening, but I faithfully joined my LDCCW sisters and was so blessed by our time.

As we discussed the BUILD portion of the book and Acts 2:42, we found ourselves sharing our personal prayer routines. The sense of camaraderie and support within our group is truly heart-warming, and I am so grateful for their encouragement on my faith journey. We all desire to bring the love of Jesus to others and it starts in our own hearts.

Please mark your calendar for the next faith sharing Zoom meeting!

Another Faith Sharing Testimony by Trudy Burenheide

Can an hour once a month through a simple Zoom call with others also seeking Jesus, really have influence in our families and in our culture? Can it really help to transform our lives in a way that will fill us with the love of Christ? I fully believe that spending time with these good women can! We need each other.

Before Mass this morning (July 28) I opened up the missal and reflected on the Gospel, from John 6: 1-15. Surprisingly, to me, there was one word that captured my attention. In these lines the word that caused pause for me was used twice. “Gather the fragments left over, so that nothing will be wasted. So, they collected them, and filled twelve wicker baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves that had been more than they could eat."

In that word, fragments, I could see how Jesus takes our fragments, those pieces of our lives that are so intimately devoted to Him, those other parts of us that want to be, and those fragments that are broken and confused and insecure. The message I heard in my heart was that Jesus can use any or all of those fragments for the greater glory of his Kingdom. That he can take my fragments and use them to share his love and mercy with the people I encounter.

This is what I saw happening on the July 21 Sunday night Zoom book study of Foundations For Discipleship. Many of us talked about pieces, sufferings, and events in our lives that had drawn us closer to God. During that hour together the fragments that were shared were united into a greater good. A greater good that Judy and I have spoken of since then and tried to put into words, but can’t adequately share with you what happened. We know we were more fully united as one in the Body of Christ. To me, that’s why I give one hour on one Sunday night a month. It’s for the greater glory of God that we, as a body united together in his Spirit, can go out and be more willing witnesses to the Gospel.

In that breaking of the loaves, with the fragments left over the people said: “This is truly the Prophet, the one who is to come into the world.” May our families, friends, and casual encounters with others recognize the Prophet in us by the goodness of our hearts. Please join us in August, let these women who seek Christ touch your hearts!

LEADERSHIP-Jane Potts

Hot, Hot, Hot, and Dry! At least that’s what July was like in SW Nebraska. Please pray for rain.

August is back to school time. Let us pray for our children and teachers. Pray they will be filled with wisdom and blessings.

Getting back to a regular routine also brings our PCCW back to regular meetings and

activities. Be a Leader-invite new church members and even those who just haven’t been active to attend PCCW meetings. Be open to new ideas. A good leader is also a good listener.

Let’s make Fall a great time to GROW!! Stay cool.

The Assumption of Mary

https://www.ewtn.com/catholicism/saints/assumption-of-the-blessed-virgin-mary-814

In 1950, Pope Pius XII declared the Assumption of Mary official dogma of the Roman Catholic Church. The Catholic Church teaches that the Virgin Mary "having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory."

Pi Alpha Chi is a Catholic sorority established in 2012 by some female members of UNL’s Newman Center. It was created to be a community where women could model the Visitation. We are called to approach our sisters as Mary and Elizabeth did, rejoicing in each other’s goodness and growing in faith with each other. We hope to communicate with the women of LDCCW more consistently this year, and posting updates about our sisterhood in the monthly newsletter.

Though our chapter primarily operates during the school year, many of our sisters get together during the summer! Here’s four of our members visiting Galveston, TX!
