Certification News You Can Use
August 2017
Welcome to this month's edition of
"Certification News You Can Use"
Each newsletter highlights important updates regarding certification and recognizes newly certified iaedp™ members for the month.
ARE YOU CONSIDERING CERTIFICATION?
Not sure where to start?
If you have been considering certification and are an
experienced
professional specializing in eating disorders, the process is simple if you qualify for the the
Equivalency route t
o certification.
For newer professionals, you are in good hands with your iaedp™-approved supervisor to guide you through your difficult cases and with the iaedp™ Core Courses conducted by leading experts using the Traditional route to certification.
For experienced or newer professionals who treat some eating disorders but also have a
broad base of clients without eating disorders, co
nsider the
Educational Designation
.
Although this is
not a route to certification, you will
gain important knowledge to increase confidence when working with eating disorders or disordered eating and to understand when to refer to specialists and/or higher level of care.
ARE YOU READY TO SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION?
Go green, hold the postage costs, save yourself a trip to the post office and reduce turnaround time!! i
aedp™ is ready to receive your application online. Contact Pat@iaedp for instructions and check
the web for updates.
Mailed applications continue to request that you allow 90 days from
i
aedp's™ receipt of your packet in the mail. Uploaded applications are expected to cut the processing time in half.
"I'M A MEDICAL PROVIDER - WHY WOULD I CHOOSE CERTIFICATION?"
Delia Aldridge, MD, CEDS wants to share a clear benefit of certification.
"I am the Medical Director for the Center for Eating Disorders at AMITA HEALTH, Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital and I am the newest member of the iaedp™ Certification Committee. I joined this esteemed group with the goal of improving the certification process for physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants, making it tailored to the scope of our practice."
Being certified has assisted Dr. Aldridge in the utilization review process during some of the negative determinations with insurance representatives. When in the peer negotiations, Dr. Aldridge will ask if the insurance "peer" is certified? Her favorite line when they deny coverage is "this is not a peer to peer level review if I am not reviewing this case with a CEDS professional". She has been successful in overturning a few of the reviews in favor of patient.
Check out the other benefits to certification for all professionals.
CASE CONSULTATIONS: A Member Benefit!
Interested in
iaedp™ Case Consultation opportunities, which can also serve as additional supervision hour(s)?
Led by Dr. Jonna Fries and Alli Spotts-De Lazzer, MA, MFT, LPCC, CEDS, join your colleagues twice a month to discuss difficult cases together - a beneficial resource available to all iaedp members free of charge. These consultations happen on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month at 12 noon PST/ 2 pm CST/ 3 pm EST. Feel free to attend on an "as needed" basis.
Can these bi-monthly consultation hours
count towards your 2500 required supervised patient care hours? Yes. Although these consultations do not take the place of your individual supervision, you may add them to your documented hours (under "Other") with your approved supervisor's permission.
Can I participate even if I am already certified or am not pursuing certification at this time? Yes, always!
