Dear La Mesa,

The City will be conducting roadway paving on Jackson Drive between Murray Drive to La Mesa Boulevard, starting on Aug. 27, 2024 to approximately Aug. 30, 2024. The work will be carried out nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. During this period, on- and off-ramps may be closed, with ramps near Grossmont Center Drive and Murray Drive closed on different nights. One lane in each direction of Jackson Drive will remain open at all times; however, we encourage commuters to take alternate routes, if possible, to avoid delays.

Sales Tax Extension

The La Mesa City Council voted unanimously at the July 9 City Council meeting to place the extension of the ¾¢ sales tax on the ballot for the upcoming 2024 November Election. This decision allows La Mesa residents to vote on the continuation of this sales tax, which has been used to fund public services.

Since 2008, the City has relied on local funding from this voter-approved sales tax. This funding is currently set to expire in 2029. If the sales tax expires, La Mesa will lose approximately $12 million in annual funding. Without this funding, La Mesa will need to make significant reductions to services.

If renewed, this local funding will continue to:

  • Maintain over 153 miles of streets and 53 miles of storm drains.
  • Keep 133 acres of parks, recreation, and community facilities well-maintained.
  • Repair aging infrastructure including storm drains, sidewalks, and public facilities.
  • Provide fire protection, paramedic services, and quick responses to 911 emergencies.
  • Provide police services, including crime prevention and investigations.
  • Beautify and keep La Mesa clean.
