Classes by SAS Hall of Famers

Inaugural inductees to the SAS Hall of Fame Alfred Hunt and Harriet Langsam Sobol, pictured below, are not resting on their laurels. This fall, both will be teaching in the virtual classroom, welcoming new and returning students alike.

Hunt resumes weekly round-table conversations with fellow friendly news junkies in Let's Talk Current Events. His Wednesday morning section (Course 12791) begins on September 11, 2024, and his Thursday morning class (Course 12792) begins on September 12, 2024. Topics may vary from popular culture, politics, media issues and other items at the local, national, or international levels but the conversation is always stimulating.

Sobol's popular book discussion group will begin the new semester with James (2024) by Percival Everett (Course 12782) on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. This popular novel is a reimagining of Mark Twain's Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, indelibly narrated from the point of view of the enslaved Jim.

Sobol follows that with The Gift of Rain (2007) by Tan Twan Eng (Course 12783) on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 -- a debut novel that was long-listed for the Man Booker Prize.

Winner of the Man Booker Prize, Prophet Song (2023) by Paul Lynch (Course 12784) is the reading for Wednesday, November 20, 2024.

Tell Me Everything (2024) by Elizabeth Strout (Course 12785) will close out the 2024 season on Wednesday, December 18, 2024. Reunite with your favorite characters from her previous series, including popular protagonists Lucy Barton and Olive Kitteridge who meet each other in this latest fiction.
