Heather Martinez

Heather’s love for nonprofits and passion for philanthropy was sparked as a college student when she began volunteering with the International Committee of the Red Cross. She recalls, “Seeing the vast difference of how children and families live (survive, really) in other parts of the world, at such an influential stage in my life, really laid the groundwork for the whole-hearted dedication I feel today.” She’s continued volunteering ever since this time and is also an active advocate for CASA, NAMI, and Veterans experiencing homelessness.

Now with 20 years of experience in nonprofit leadership and development, she looks forward to her role as the Director of Development at Storyteller in the Santa Barbara community.

Storyteller's Class of 2023 Graduates

On Friday, July 28, Storyteller Children's Center celebrated the close of another school year with its annual Graduation Ceremony. The celebration took place in the beautiful, historic Carrillo Ballroom, decorated from floor to ceiling with stars to go with the theme, "To Infinity and Beyond." Storyteller's Program Director Jacqueline Ryan commented on the theme: "We are so incredibly proud of our graduates as they begin a new chapter in their lives. What better way to inspire students to achieve their goals and reach for the stars?"

During the ceremony, students stood in unison and sang, "We are Storyteller," parents beamed in pride as they watched their children walk across the stage to accept their diplomas. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. As the ceremony concluded, students were gifted with a cupcake, a sandwich from Jersey Mikes, and a backpack filled with school supplies. This ceremony is an important milestone for our students and a triumph for our teachers, who have worked tirelessly throughout the year to ensure all our students are prepared for Kindergarten. We appreciate the dedication and passion our teachers have shown us throughout the school year. Executive Director Dr. Gabriella Garcia concludes, "This ceremony was an amazing ending to a busy school year. We wish all the best for our thirty graduates and look forward to the new school year!".
