Cost Share Updates

Approval letters will be mailed following the Board of Supervisors meeting on Aug. 22.


For 2023, SCD has paid over $4.48m in cost-share assistance, an increase of $1.5m from 2022. This increase translates to more conservation on the ground that directly benefits local communities with improved drainage infrastructure and water quality throughout Sussex County.

Cover Crops


• SCD received 287 applications for 185,308.6 acres of cover crops to be planted in the Fall of 2023.


• Goal is 80,000 acres to be planted in Sussex County in Fall 2023.


• Over $5.2 million in cost-share available. 

Funding is provided by:

• The Delaware General Assembly through

• DDA - Delaware Nutrient Management Commission

• DNREC

• Conservation Cost Share Program,

• Nonpoint Source Program

• Chesapeake Bay Program, and

• Sussex County Council



• The funding cap is currently set at $75,000.

Tax Ditch (3921)


• Received 260 applications totaling $772,204


• All applications for maintenance, weed wiper/hand spraying applications, mowing and bond were approved by the Board of Supervisors.


• Mowing cost-share was increased to 75% of the cost, not to exceed $225 per mile of tax ditch.


• Funding on maintenance applications increased to 60% of the total cost, not to exceed $18,000.


• Cost-Share funding provided by Sussex County Council and Delaware General Assembly through DNREC. A special thank you goes out to members of the General Assembly for a $500,000 increase for tax ditch projects in FY24.

CCR Recertification


The next Certified Construction Reviewer (CCR) recertification course will be held on Oct. 4 and 11, 2023.


The course is $90 and highlights changes in the Sediment and Stormwater Program and Regulations, along with newer approaches to stormwater management.


CCRs eligible for recertification will be notified by DNREC, registration is required.

DOVER, Del., Aug. 8, 2023 - The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) invites the public to attend the Delaware State Technical Committee meeting on Sept. 7, 2023. The meeting will be conducted remotely via Microsoft Teams video conferencing.
