Foundations of Targeted Violence Prevention eLearning

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of Intelligence and Analysis, National Threat Evaluation and Reporting (NTER) Office has released an eLearning module titled, “Foundations of Targeted Violence Prevention."

The 1-hour training's goal is "to educate the public on threatening or potentially concerning behaviors and where to report them, providing an opportunity for intervention to prevent targeted violence from occurring. It seeks to assist in preventing targeted violence by empowering community members to:

1. Recognize threats or potentially concerning behaviors
2. Understand what behaviors may be displayed by a person who is on a pathway to violence
3. Learn where to report information of concern
4. Understand how the information reported will be used to keep our community safe"

There's Still Time to Register!

Upcoming Effective Communication Principles Class on Aug. 23rd in Normal

There's still time to register for the Effective Communication Principles Before, During, and After Critical Incidents on August 23rd in Normal, IL.

This training provides attendees comprehensive education on the subject of communications. Throughout the training, attendees will learn about the importance of building relationships with the media and the community through routine communications. The training will also provide guidance on how to prepare for a crisis communications event and what to do should that day happen. Finally, instruction will wrap up with discussion on how to effectively communicate after a critical incident.

Upcoming Session of Threat Assessment Team Training in Freeport, IL August 29-30th

The Illinois School and Campus Safety Program is pleased to announce an upcoming session of the Threat Assessment Team Training class in Freeport, IL August 29-30th.

This comprehensive 2-day K-12 training on multidisciplinary, community-based threat assessment teams provides a history and background of threat assessment, targeted violence, threat assessment research, risk factors, and behavioral indicators of those who are intending to commit targeted violence against others. It also provides training on the concept and advantages of a community-based, multidisciplinary threat assessment system, team dynamics, threat assessment process, and management principles.

Sessions of Digital Threat Assessment® and Advanced Digital Threat Assessment® Now Scheduled

The Illinois School and Campus Safety Program, in partnership with Safer Schools Together, is pleased to announce 3 upcoming sessions of the Digital Threat Assessment® class and 1 upcoming session of the Advanced Digital Threat Assessment® class being held via Zoom.

The Digital Threat Assessment® training will enable participants to establish a framework to better assess all threats by constructing and considering the digital baseline of a threat maker by locating, documenting, and evaluating social media data through a threat assessment lens. A significant portion of the day will be spent engaging in hands-on exercises on the most prevalent social media platforms and associated search applications. Building upon the Digital Threat Assessment® class by Safer Schools Together, Advanced Digital Threat Assessment® advances participants' understanding of finding and curating relevant digital information consistent with real-life digital threat assessment data gathering scenarios. Significant engagement and hands-on practice will take place as participants are assembled into investigative teams and given a true-to-life mock scenario.
