Thirst Aid - Celebrating 15 years!

with St. Joseph the Worker and the Key Campus partners

August Thirst Aid collection event with St. Joseph the Worker and Keys to Change a time to reflect on the power of collaboration.

Did you know? Thirst Aid is celebrating its 15th year as a heat relief drive here in Phoenix!

All thanks to our partners at St. Joseph the Worker (SJW), who founded the drive to support their job-seeking clients.

"Thirst Aid began in 2009 as a collaboration between SJW and Sundt, serving as a beacon of hope for individuals experiencing homelessness in downtown Phoenix," says Carrie Masters, CEO of SJW.

Masters continues, "Initially focused on providing essential water supplies during the scorching summer months to those seeking employment at SJW, this initiative has significantly evolved and now supports dozens of nonprofits, thanks to hundreds of water donors."

At Keys to Change, we're proud to honor those roots while growing new branches, and forming a wider canopy of care. This year, we've seen an explosion of crowdfunding drives (create your own here) where anyone can create a drive, and anyone can donate.

Funds support the bulk purchase of water and emergency heat relief supplies by Keys to Change. With the support of the Keys to Change Operations Team, all 15 organizations on Key Campus distribute Thirst Aid water to our 1,200 daily clients - wherever they are on Campus.

We're proud to work alongside such passionate and compassionate counterparts at SJW. Our unique collaboration allows us to learn from each other and grow together. Carrie Masters said it beautifully: "It's heartwarming to see the community come together, offering support not only during the summer months but also helping individuals get on the path to a brighter future."

Mark your calendars!

The final Thirst Aid Collection Date of the season is Saturday, September 7th, 9am - noon at 1300 W Harrison Street, featuring our campus partners Homeless ID Project.

Thank you, Phoenix Pride!

First "Rainbow Relief" event provides heat relief and promotes LGBTQ+ visibility on Campus

What better way to spend a Saturday morning than serving...the community!

When you're in the business of helping people heal inside and out, representation matters. A disproportionate level of unhoused youth are LGBTQ+ with some studies suggesting up to 40%. Yet, much of the social service delivery system is still deeply gendered.

At Keys to Change, we believe that client-centered care starts with seeing the whole human in front of us. Their background, their identity, their traumas - all inform our approach.

This new partnership with Phoenix Pride is a step towards better care.

The Rainbow Relief program is open to all Pride volunteers, with periodic opportunities to serve our unhoused neighbors alongside Keys to Change. Stay tuned for more opportunities to give back!

In-Kind Donor Spotlight

In-Kind Donations fill critical need and promote client health and dignity. Susan and George go the extra mile with their consistent, thoughtful donations.

Susan is a retired military nurse who drops by our Administration building every 3-4 weeks with hundreds of pounds of home and office supplies that she purchases through auction sites for our clients.

She asks what we need, and monitors websites for the best deals on those items. She recently contributed a dozen umbrellas to our "Sunbrella" Drive.

Thank you Susan!

George has been donating for years, like clockwork. He's a lawyer in the local community whose thoughtful gifts directly address Campus needs. He routinely scours our social media and wish lists, shopping for brand new underwear and towels, hydration and hygiene supplies for our clients.

He's even been known to call our Development Assistant, Martin, from the aisles of Costco to hone in on exact sizes and types most needed in the moment.

Thank you George!
