We can't wait to welcome our new and returning Cougars during Orientation this week! Fall Sports Tryouts begin this week too! Go Cougs!

A Message from our Principal of Academics and Ed Tech:

It is hard to believe that school starts up this week. While we had a wonderful summer full of time to both reflect and plan, we have missed the incredible spirit, laughter, and energy that only the students can bring. We are looking forward to seeing everyone back on campus!

In the last few years, we have focused on providing access to Honors and AP classes for a greater number of students. AP programming has grown exponentially and we have added new classes to provide greater opportunity. Despite opening access, our pass rates remain far above national and global averages even in subjects that attract an ever-increasing number of students like AP Lang, AP Lit, AP Gov, and AP Psych. In May 2024, Carondelet students sat for 888 AP tests! This year we add AP Art History to the roster!

We hope students enjoyed some rest and relaxation this summer and are now ready to launch the new year. And speaking of being ready for the new year, we know they have all done their summer reading and homework for their classes (Link to website with summer homework just in case).

Finalized schedules will be distributed during orientation. There may be a few changes for those in the math program that are still pending but for everyone else, schedules will be set.

For sophomores through seniors who wish to make a schedule change, instructions on how to do so are available on Schoology under the “course advising hub.” There is not much movement for freshmen, but any questions can be sent straight to me.

Students can make changes to their schedules up through Monday, August 26 (Friday, August 30 for AP students with teacher approval). This brings me back to summer homework because all schedule changes will require students to have completed any assigned homework/reading for a class before they can be added.

To continue with the practice that Jennifer Reinwald, Principal of Student Life and Mission, started last week, I would like to end with Maxim 15 from our CSJ tradition:

Listen deeply to subtle nudges of the holy spirit: then act on them.

Blessings,

Dr. C

Important Reminders

Schedules and Calendars

On Wednesday, August 14, we’ll host our first day of classes for the school year. All classes will meet for 45 minutes. This first day is meant to be a welcome check-in where teachers introduce the course and review class-specific expectations.

Bell Schedule

The 2024-25 Bell Schedule is available on the website and as a downloadable and printable PDF.

Beginning of the Year Updates

If you missed the Beginning of the Year email sent out earlier last month, you can read that here. Learn more on the Beginning of the Year webpage.

Senior College Kickstart Workshop:

For seniors who have registered, we are looking forward to seeing you at Kickstart on Monday, August 12, from 1:00 - 3:00 PM in the Garaventa and Tuesday, August 13, from 9:00 - 11:30 AM in the Jean Hofmann Center for Innovation.

Main Office Working Hours

The Main Office is open from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Spirit wear orders can be picked up at Student Orientation.

Cell Phone Policy

To help foster engagement in the classroom, students are expected to turn their phones into the classroom cell phone pockets at the beginning of each class period. There are also specific schoolwide events where phones will not be allowed. For these reasons, we want to remind parents to call Nicole Ebert directly (ext. 116) in the Attendance Office with any urgent needs.

Parking Lot Updates

Please allow extra time to navigate our parking lot during the opening weeks of school. We have many new drivers learning our lot and locating their new parking assignment, as well as close to 2,000 students entering and exiting Carondelet and De La Salle within the same time frame. Here are a few important reminders:

In the mornings:

  • All numbered spaces are assigned to students and staff. Please utilize the drop-off zone in the back of campus and do not pull into numbered spaces
  • There are two lanes of traffic along our back fence. The left lane is for student drop off and the right lane is for student parking.
  • If you need to stop and park, please use our visitor parking found just after turning left after the flagpole.
  • Our lot is busiest between 8:05 and 8:15 AM, so we encourage everyone to plan to arrive before 8:05 AM to allow for plenty of time to get to class.

In the afternoons:

  • It can take up to 20 minutes to clear our parking lot at the end of the school day. Please plan accordingly
  • For a smoother exit, we recommend arriving at campus to pick up your student no earlier than 10 minutes after the final bell.
  • If you arrive on campus to pick up your student before the final bell rings, we recommend that you park in any open parking spot in our back lot to avoid blocking parking spaces.

School Store Orders

Please pick up all your School Store orders at Orientation. All orders are located in the Convent in the stairwell. Purchases are in alphabetical order. Contact Angie Hatfield, Proforma, if you cannot find your order.

2024-25 Uniform Expectations

We encourage all students and families to familiarize themselves with our uniform policy. Questions? Email Dean of Students Caitlin Main.

Join our 1965 Society Today

Generous donors who make annual gifts of $1,965 or more in an academic year are invited to a reception with our President and recognized in Many the Gifts as members of the 1965 Society, commemorating the year of Carondelet's founding.

We invite those who aren't already members to join today by making a gift of $1,965 or more. In honor of your generosity, you'll immediately receive an invitation to our Cocktail Reception on Thursday, September 5.

Your philanthropy makes an immediate and lasting impact on our students, faculty, staff, and families in the Carondelet community. Tuition covers approximately 90% of our annual budget, and we rely on our community's generosity to bridge this gap by making an annual gift of $1,965.

Please reach out to the Director of Philanthropy Lynne Sabbagha Kenny ’86 P’24 to review your giving history or learn more about this donor society.

Thank you to our current and future members!
