AUGUST 11, 2022
MONTHLY TAIZE SERVICE
Taize brings a time for contemplative worship, involving sung and chanted prayers, meditation, a period of silence, liturgical readings, and icons - a time for you to spend in deep personal connection with God. Our next Taize Service will be held in Fellowship Hall this Sunday, August 14 at 4pm.
CELEBRATING NORMAN JENSON
Next Sunday, August 21, our organist, Norman Jenson is retiring from regular church music after a long career as an organist, pianist, and college professor. We will celebrate Norman and his musical gifts at a reception between services in the Fellowship Hall.
HANDBELLS & ADULT CHOIRS BEGIN REHEARSALS
We enthusiastically encourage and welcome new people to join all of the groups. If you love music, please be in touch so that we can include you in our never-ending effort to make a joyful noise! There is no audition; just come and participate!

Handbell choirs start rehearsals August 23 at 6:00 in the Kelley Music Room. New members are welcome to join! Please email Julie Hackmann for more information.

The Celebration Singers (9:00 service) and Dayspring Chorale (10:30 service) will begin rehearsing in the Music Room on Wednesday, August 24, at 7:00 and 8:00 respectively and will sing in services on August 28. Email David Schildkret for more information.
CHURCH CAMPOUT REGISTRATION
If you're ready to cool off and enjoy fun, fellowship (at 8500 feet) and worship with a large bunch of adventurous Dayspringers, register for camp HERE! This year, we will again head to Hoyer Campground near Greer, Arizona, where we’ve reserved family sites for our 25th Annual All Church Labor Day Campout. Registration will continue until all spots are filled. Please email Carol Muggeridge with questions.
FAMILY PROMISE
We host Family Promise, a temporary shelter for unhoused families, starting Sunday, September 4. Volunteer opportunities include room set up, tear downs, meal prep/clean up, and overnight hosting. Overnight hosts can sign up HERE. Please email Maria or Howard with questions or to volunteer.
SPIRITUAL DIRECTION GROUPS
We are currently creating new Spiritual Direction small groups. This is a process in which people – usually four people – gather together on a regular basis – usually monthly – to assist one another in an ongoing awareness of God in all of life. There are three agreements we make as a group:

  1. Commit ourselves to an honest relationship with God
  2. Participate wholeheartedly in the group process through prayerful listening and response
  3. Open our spiritual journeys for consideration by others.

Depending on the needs of those in the group, we can provide an in-person group and also a group on Zoom. If you are interested in either one of these groups, please email Pastor Shirley. The first gathering will be Wednesday, September 7 at 10:30am on Zoom. At that time, upcoming meetings and times will be decided.
5 DAY ACADEMY FOR
SPIRITUAL FORMATION
Do you need a retreat, a time to recharge your batteries? Our moral and spiritual health depends upon our openness to “withdraw to a quiet place” (Mark 1:35). At the same time, we need to hear God’s call for justice and peace. Join us for this year’s Five Day Academy for Spiritual Formation September 18-23 at the beautiful Redemptorist Renewal Center near Tucson. Sponsored by the Desert Southwest Conference, this year’s theme is “Journey into the Heart of Christ: Spiritual Healing and Justice,” with faculty presenters Vance P. Ross and Hwa-Young Chong. Click HERE for more information and to register by August 15.
UNASHAMED DSC YOUTH RETREAT
LGBTQIA+ Teens and Allies in grades 9 - 12, are invited to attend the Desert Southwest Conference's weekend long retreat from 9/30-10/2 at Mingus Mountain Camp. The cost for "Unashamed" is $140 per person; $30 scholarships are available upon request from the conference and Dayspring has additional scholarships available. Register or learn more HERE.
MISSING TABLECLOTHS
We are currently missing some white tablecloths and two blue laundry baskets. If you know where any of these items are, please return them to the church office on Thursday morning between 9:30-12:30 or on Sunday. Thank you!
