A couple of weeks ago, the Chamber Chix escaped for a well-deserved break down in the 1000 Islands! We closed the office on a Tuesday and took off for the afternoon to enjoy a bit of sun, water and rest! It also happened to coincide with Yona's last day in the office!
GOOD-BYE YONA
Yona is moving on to a role with the Downtown District in PR & Communications later this month. Over the past couple years with the Chamber, she has been working hard on the building of her own business as Mabuhay Canada - a website dedicated to supporting Filipinos who have made Canada their home with news, tips to adjusting and connecting to resources here AND she embarks on continuing her studies with a Masters in Management Innovation & Entrepreneurship at Queen's this week. Of course, we're sad to see her leave the Log Cabin but look forward to an enhanced connection with our friends on the Downtown team and we know she won't be too far away. Best of success, Yona!
ACCREDITATION
In 2021, the Belleville Chamber of Commerce applied for accreditation. This marked almost three years of active tracking and documenting the work we do. Last week, the re-accreditation application was due and while slightly less involved, the application still required proof as provided through 14 pages and 31 attachments. Thanks to Lisa, the Directors of the Board, the Governance committee and you for engaging with our work, I got it in on time and already received confirmation we've fulfilled the requirements for re-accreditation. (Formal recognition won't come through until October, but it looks like we did the necessary work!)
Accreditation is formal recognition that a Chamber of Commerce / Board of Trade has met the highest national standards of excellence in leadership, governance and operations.
To become accredited, a Chamber of Commerce / Board of Trade must pass a rigorous review of its policies and procedures by the Chamber Accreditation Council of Canada (CACC). The CACC promotes Accredited Chambers of Commerce / Boards of Trade for standing out as exceptional organizations and leaders in the Chamber network.
The standards of accreditation are a framework of policies, procedures and practices that set a strong foundation for success as a Chamber of Commerce / Board of Trade. The standards of Accreditation were first created in 2004 by a team of Chamber executives, in conjunction with provincial and territorial chambers and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
We still have some work to do on our Strategic Plan so you may be hearing more from me on that and how you might be able to help.
CALL FOR COMMITTEES
With the transition of our Board/AGM in May, and the routine of meetings in September with a new cycle from September to April, we're inviting you to get involved with committees again.
There are four committees that support the Board of Directors and initiatives of the Chamber. In the coming months, the work will be closely aligned to the upcoming Strategic Plan and we consistently look for sector representation for the Government Affairs & Membership committees and welcome experienced volunteers to the Finance & Governance committees. If you're interested, please add your name to the list here!
