Library Notes
During the recent catastrophic storms, the Norman Williams Public Library was more fortunate than many of our friends and neighbors around the region. The Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpelier suffered more than half a million dollars in losses from the July 11th flood and has a long road to recovery ahead. They need help to rebuild and, thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, gifts received by August 15 will be matched! To learn more, please click on the picture above.
August starts during the dog days of summer - named for the position of Sirius, the Dog Star, though usually associated with the hottest stretch of the year. This month, the librarians are featuring books to take you to another time - in space or history. This theme encompasses fantasy and time travel, historic novels and experimental fiction.

Save Friday afternoon, August 18, for magical, musical family fun! The BenAnna Band will return for a rollicking concert in the side garden.

Did you see the article in The Vermont Standard about Upper Valley photographer Katie Lenhart? "Here and Away," her exhibition in the Mezzanine Gallery, runs through this month. We will host a Reception and Artist talk Tuesday, August 22 at 6 pm.
Register your canine divas now for Puppies and Pooches on Parade, the Friends of NWPL's annual fundraising event. Then make plans to join the fun on The Green on Saturday morning, August 26!

Sustainable Woodstock's ebike program returns to town at the end of the month. Ebikes will be available to try out and borrow; details will be posted on their website as soon as they are available.
How is your Summer Book Bingo card filling up? We have extended the game and rescheduled the drawing to give everyone time to settle in after summer travels and Labor Day visitors. Save the date, September 9, 11 am, and join us for the Bingo Party.w

Kids - do you open the Break Out Box often? Ask the librarian for a Stamp Card! Each time you solve a new set of clues and open the box, you get a stamp. Get 4 stamps and receive a gift card to Yankee Bookshop.

Our ongoing programs continue with noteworthy updates:
  • Story Times - ever popular with youngsters as well as their parents and caregivers - now presented by Sarah on Tuesdays and Adrian on Thursdays.
  • The Mending Circle received a donation of a sewing machine and a generous supply of bobbins, threads, needles, and a variety of scissors and specialty shears!
  • Though the NWPL Tech Talk series is on hiatus until fall, you are welcome to stop by with tech questions or make an appointment for one-on-one support with Danelle.
  • More poetry! In addition to the monthly Recite! Open Mic Poetry Evenings, we are adding a new Poetry Group in September. This will be a twice-a-month opportunity for sharing and critiquing.

Read, relax, and relish the rest of summer...

NWPL welcomes donations of books in good condition! Some books will be added to the collection. Most will be sold in the library's book sales including the rare book sale. The money raised supports programs, adds new books to the collection, and funds the overall upkeep of the library. In addition, some of the donated books are passed on to Bookstock for their annual Book Sale on The Green.

Your generous book donations allow us to keep the Book Sale in the library foyer fresh and exciting! Stop by and see what is new. (MORE INFO)
