For many of us, summer is a time for fun and relaxation. Sadly, that's not the case for lots of low-income families. Between the absence of daily school meals and the structure of school days, the summer months can be burdened with stress and loneliness.

Thanks to your generous donations to Backpack & Lunchbox Kids, we helped make summer brighter for local kids. We sent children to fun campssuccessfully distributed kids meals, clothing and more to make sure all kids return to school in September happy and healthy.

We hosted a Back to School Bash along with the First Presbyterian Church to give kids a fun day out, get haircuts, pick out their backpacks generously provided by Supplies for Success, play games, do art projects, have a yummy breakfast, and take home books donated by Rogers Memorial Library and The Children's School.

With your help we also purchased Tanger gift cards for Southampton Schools to distribute so kids can buy back-to-school clothing and shoes. We ordered dozens of lunchboxes and water bottles for our most vulnerable families

In the coming weeks, we will continue to provide everything kids need for a great start to the new school year. Please join us by making a donation here to support local students today!

Surprisingly, 50% of families in Southampton Schools and 60% of families in Tuckahoe Schools rely on free and reduced-priced breakfast and lunch. To support families in the summer, our food pantry distributes five breakfasts, five lunches and snacks every week to local children, thanks to Lunchbox Kids and Long Island Cares.

We continue to see more families struggling to have enough food. So far in August we have given 12,789 meals worth of groceries compared to 7,741 for the same time period last year.  Please consider donating unopened, not expired food to help us continue to meet this dramatic increase. We accept food donations on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10AM-2PM.

We know the start of fall means seasonal work will begin to dwindle and our customers will turn to us to keep their families fed. With your help, we will continue to serve our neighbors enough nutritious food staples every week.

DONATE HERE!

In the summer months most of our families are working enough to keep up with their basic living expenses. But for seniors on fixed incomes the rising cost of living is wreaking havoc. Our Assistance Program is a vital resource for seniors struggling to make ends meet. Here are but a few examples from August that demonstrate the impact this program has for local seniors.

  • Purchased clothing and shoes for a low-income senior

  • Paid a utility bill for a senior to avoid their electricity being shut-off

  • Covered rent for a senior while they recover from surgery

  • Arranged medical transportation for a senior to receive cardiac rehab

  • Paid outstanding medical expenses for a senior so they could continue to receive care

Proceeds from the event are allowing us to keep up with the rising cost of food. If you missed the event you can still donate to support our efforts.
