3rd Annual SPARC "End of Summer Concert Celebration"

The South Pasadena Arts Council (SPARC)

in partnership with the South Pasadena Public Library and Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library presents: The Black Tongued Bells, "American Swamp Music" on the lawn in Library Park at 1115 El Centro.

The free concert will feature the Singular "American Swamp Music" stylists The Black Tongued Bells performing their Electrified Roots Rock 'n Roll Show for which they plug-in and are joined by gospel singers and, on occasion, special guest artists. Miner, Louis Cox, Mary Stuart, Ray Herron.

LA County Arts Commission This concert is supported in part by The South Pasadena Arts Council (SPARC), The South Pasadena Public Library, Friends of the South Pasadena Library, Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, and the Los Angeles County Arts Commission.

SPARC Lab

Introducing SPARC Lab!

"The Creative Life" - a discussion with South Pasadena Artists

The Creative Life will look at the artists' process. Engage in a dialogue/conversation about inspiration, growth and development, what defines success, what strategies are employed to attain artistic goals, what are the challenges faced and how they find balance.

A new project of bi-monthly series of insightful and interactive programs exploring the many sides of the arts. Set in a fun and casual environment, SPARC Lab brings together those who are part of or interested in the arts to provide inspiration, insight, networking, and professional development opportunities. Gatherings will feature speakers and panel discussions, artist open studios, and the celebration of South Pasadena's and the region's prolific cultural community.

Look for more information about dates, locations, and program content in SPARC's e-Newsletters!

Sun, Aug 11 @ 2pm - ONE MATINEE ONLY!
Singing Outside the Box
Starring R. Christofer Sands

"Why is it that a voice that is a rare commodity in a sought after field as challenging as opera is so casually dismissed in musical theatre." R. Christofer Sands' second one-man show "Singing Outside the Box" brings his talented and quirky singing style to the forefront. A skilled actor and vocalist - with a four-and-a-half octave range! - he brings a program of roles and anecdotes that makes you understand why he enthralls audiences with his performances and bewilders directors with what to do with his out of the box style.

Auto Parts

Auto Parts

Written & directed by Steve Stajich

A story of love, longing, theft, failure, sex, marriage, infidelity, and of course murder. "Auto Parts" is a theater piece consisting of four interrelated component 'parts' which are presented in an order selected by the audience before each show; the narrative line is never the same twice. No two performances are the same, yet the story presents itself clearly while holding the last of its secrets until the very end.

Author Night with Steve Hodel

Steve Hodel, author the 2012 blockbuster "Black Dahlia Avenger II," will return for an encore Author Night appearance.  In 2008 and 2011, Hodel made gripping appearances in the venue on his first two "Black Dahlia" books before full-house audiences. He revealed a wealth of convincing evidence pinpointing his father, Dr. George Hodel, as 1947's "Black Dahlia" murderer, the perpetrator of the most infamous crime in Los Angeles history.

"Black Dahlia Avenger II" establishes the original Black Dahlia crime scene at the Hodel family's historic Franklin residence in Hollywood where Hodel grew up. It also links evidence from the home to articles left in the vacant lot where Elizabeth Short, the "Black Dahlia" victim, was discovered.

The event will also feature Hodel's new short film and PowerPoint. The program will conclude with an interactive Q&A with the audience.
