The Stony Brook School of Health Professions is pleased to announce the following scholarship opportunity:


The Henry and Marsha Laufer Scholarship

Academic Year 2024-2025

Drs. Henry and Marsha Laufer are two former Stony Brook University distinguished faculty from the Department of Mathematics and the (former) School of Allied Health Professions who have provided generous philanthropy, leadership, and commitment to many people and campus organizations for over 40 years. The Henry and Marsha Laufer Scholarship is awarded to full-time matriculated students in degree-granting programs in the School of Health Professions to support tuition, books, fees, and room and board.


Award Amount

$500 to $5,000 in scholarship for the 2024-2025 Academic Year (varies by program)


Eligibility Criteria

Students who are eligible to apply for and receive scholarships must meet the following criteria: 


A.    Be enrolled full-time in a degree-granting program in the School of Health Professions as defined by Stony Brook policy.

B.    Demonstrate good academic achievement as defined by Stony Brook policy. 

C.    Preference given to students who demonstrate financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Services based upon completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). 

         i.       For graduate students who receive other donor-funded scholarships or other institutional support (such as tuition waivers), this may be used to Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Services, so long as it does not exceed the recipient(s) total cost of attendance.

       ii.       Undergraduate students participating in the New York State’s Excelsior Scholarship are not eligible for tuition support. For students participating in New York State’s Excelsior Scholarship, the scholarship is solely and exclusively for non-tuition expenses as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Services. 

      iii.       Non-tuition expenses typically include room and board, insurance, student fees, travel, books and supplies, personal expenses or other common non-tuition expenses as determined by Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Services. 

D.    Preference shall be given to students who demonstrate leadership in the healthcare field. Examples include, but are not limited to a student’s participation in research, professional development, volunteering efforts, civic engagements, or other activities that demonstrate leadership in healthcare. Students who are recipients of awards or distinctions may also be considered as leaders in healthcare.
