On Sunday, August 6th, the Port of New York and New Jersey welcomed the vessel EVER MAX. This was the vessel's maiden voyage to the region, launched by Evergreen Line in June of this year.
Thank you to all the MAPONY/NJ members that seamlessly assisted the vessel to its destination in Port Elizabeth.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Ocean Service (NOS), Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services (CO-OPS) is hosting a virtual workshop to provide crucial insight into the types of data needed to ensure safe and efficient marine commerce in and around the Mid-Atlantic (NY, NJ, PA, DE, DC, MD, VA).
The workshop will take place on Thursday, August 24th from 9 am to 11 am EDT.

The New York District Corps of Engineers has received an application for Ferry Landing Relocation and Replacement on Governors Island.

The New York District Corps of Engineers received an application to replace an existing deteriorated ferry landing supporting services to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island and to serve as an emergency access point.

New York State Ocean Acidification Task Force (NYS OATF) has published a draft report titled Ocean Acidification: Its Causes, Impacts, and Mitigation; A Report to the New York State Legislature. The draft report is available for public review and comment.

The FMC is seeking comments from the shipping public on three proposals aimed at increasing the performance of the U.S. international ocean freight delivery system by reforming the practices of international ocean carriers and marine terminal operators in the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach and the Port of New York and New Jersey. The proposals relate to three categories:
1. Container Return;
2. Early Return Date; and
3. Container Pickup (Notice of Availability)

The U.S. Coast Guard seeks applications to fill two member vacancies on the National Navigation Safety Advisory Committee (Committee). This Committee advises the Secretary of Homeland Security and the Coast Guard on matters relating to maritime collisions, allisions, and groundings; Inland Rules of the Road; International Rules of the Road; navigation regulations and equipment, routing measures, marine information, and aids to navigation systems.
Applications are due by October 6, 2023

EPA is soliciting applications nationwide for projects that significantly reduce diesel emissions and exposure, especially from fleets operating at ports and other goods movement facilities and areas designated as having poor air quality.
To accelerate the upgrade and turnover of the legacy diesel fleet, EPA released a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the 2022-2023 Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) National Grant Program on August 2, 2023.
Grant Packages are due by December 1, 2023

Bob served on the Board of Directors of MAPONY/NJ and was the former Harbor Operations Vice-Chair. Bob was a 5th generation tugboat Captain in New York Harbor. He worked as a Docking Pilot for member organization Metro Pilots for many decades which he so proudly served as their President up until his retirement last year. New York Department of State Relaunched it's Geographic Information Gateway 3.0 | A major part of the upgrade was migrating from a server-based platform hosted on the Amazon Cloud to a web-based platform hosted on the Esri cloud, ArcGIS Online or AGOL. The data holdings have expanded and now include more than 800 layers of information available for informing work, including a large new batch from the New York State Energy & Research Development Authority (NYSERDA) on seafloor cable corridor identification. More data focused on Long Island Sound, and offshore renewable energy development will be added soon expanding the Gateway’s holdings further to nearly 1000. | | |

Since 1873, the Maritime Association has advocated, protected, and encouraged trade through the commercial maritime industry in New York and New Jersey.
As a nonprofit trade association, the Maritime Association serves its members by affecting policy change on local and national levels while promoting the regional industries' maritime services at sea and ashore.
Stakeholder engagement is vital to the Maritime Association in order to ensure the security of maritime assets, the sustainability of the marine environment, and grow the competitiveness of port services.
