Constituency office tour summer 2024 update

MPAC’s Government Relations department is on the road this summer, visiting every constituency office in Ontario. Tour meetings began in April and continue through to July. We’ve had some excellent discussions and thoroughly enjoyed meeting you in person.

Tour meetings include presentations to constituency staff on MPAC’s history and mandate, the relationship between assessment and taxation, and information to help respond to property-specific enquiries from constituents.

Thanks to those who have already hosted us; we look forward to visiting the rest soon. Please reach out to James.Harvey@mpac.ca if you’d like to confirm your scheduled meeting.

2024 Q1 New Assessment Forecast update

At the end of April, MPAC provided municipalities with the 2024 Q1 New Assessment Forecast, projecting over $40.5 billion – a five percent increase from the 2024 Revised Preliminary New Assessment Forecast, which was delivered in late January. Municipalities can view a customized report via MyProducts on Municipal Connect.

Quarterly New Assessment Forecasts are provided within 30 days following the end of the calendar quarter for Q1, Q2, and Q3. MPAC’s next quarterly forecast will be delivered to municipalities at the end of July.

Recapping NOMA and FONOM conferences

James Harvey at NOMA with Ministers Dunlop Parsa and Thompson

The spring season has been a busy and productive period for MPAC. We caught up with municipalities and government stakeholders at key conferences, which provided valuable opportunities to discuss challenges, share insights, and explore new opportunities for future collaboration.

Our presentation at the Northern Ontario Municipal Association (NOMA) Conference in Thunder Bay was well received by attendees. We showcased several initiatives, including our Data Sharing and Services Agreement and MPAC’s Corporate Data Strategy. We shared MPAC’s efforts to provide actionable insights, drive new municipal revenue by assessing new construction, and maximize data-sharing capabilities. We also discussed MPAC’s modernization and innovation initiatives and how we are continually working to support municipalities and their communities.

MPAC staff at FONOM

At the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM) Conference in Greater Sudbury, our team had the opportunity to share how MPAC supports municipalities in northeastern Ontario. We hosted a session that focused on how MPAC keeps Ontario’s property inventory up to date, works closely with municipal partners to generate new revenue sources, and provides value to property owners.

Both conferences were excellent platforms for sharing updates, best practices, and local initiatives that help municipalities prepare for future challenges.

Next on the conference circuit for our Government Relations team is the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) conference in Ottawa this August. We hope to see you there!

MPAC achieves ISO certifications for the fifth year in a row

MPAC is pleased to announce that we have achieved recertifications for ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO/IEC 27017 for the fifth consecutive year and obtained our ISO/IEC 27018 certification for the first time.

We pride ourselves on adhering to globally acknowledged standards, demonstrating our dedication to best practices in information security. MPAC stands out as one of the select Canadian organizations to simultaneously have all three certifications, positioning us at the forefront of organizational commitment to innovative information security and cementing our reputation for excellence, trust, and unwavering reliability.

You can watch our May webinar here to learn more about our cyber security best practices and the extensive measures we take to protect municipal data.

Resource page for MPPs and constituency office staff

We encourage you to visit our Support for MPPs and constituency staff page on mpac.ca for tools to help you respond to constituent questions and the latest resources to educate new staff on assessment matters. You’ll also find links to self- service resources that constituents can use to view their assessment information and interact with MPAC directly.

We’re continuously adding new content to this page, including new social media toolkits for your own channels. Stay tuned for future updates and reach out to Government Relations directly to discuss additional supports like custom data requests for government program mailouts or MPAC 101 constituency event scheduling.

Property Income and Expense Return Program

MPAC’s Property Income and Expense Return (PIER) campaign, our largest data collection initiative, helps ensure that we have complete, accurate and up-to-date data, which is critical to the valuation of income-generating properties. Eligible property owners received a letter last month requesting information about their properties. Providing information through this program is one of the most important ways property owners can support our ongoing analysis of the market and the development of quality assessments. Submissions can be made through AboutMyProperty(TM) on mpac.ca by July 15. For more information, visit mpac.ca/PIER
