The Eagle Eye

with Dr. Weindorf

I’m David Weindorf, and I’m thrilled to join Georgia Southern University as the new Vice President for Research and Economic Development. With over two decades of experience in higher education and research, I bring a passion for innovation and a commitment to advancing our university's mission.

My journey in academia has been enriched by roles as a professor, researcher, and administrator. Before joining Georgia Southern, I served at Texas Tech University, where I contributed significantly to research initiatives and economic development. My background in soil science and environmental sustainability has allowed me to explore the intersections of science, policy, and community impact, and I’m eager to bring that perspective here.

At Georgia Southern, I aim to foster a

dynamic research environment that not only excels in academic excellence but also drives economic growth and addresses real-world challenges. Together, we can create opportunities for groundbreaking research, enhance our community partnerships, and support our talented faculty and students in their endeavors.

To that end, my office has created a Research Study Abroad program that kicks off this year. These 10 scholars will be given a stipend of $5,000 each that will foster collaborations internationally between students and faculty with the goal of high impact publications. The funding is mainly aimed at facilitating round trip flights for the selected team of a faculty member and a student.

Another exciting development coming from my office is the creation of two Presidential Research Fellows. These fellows will receive a 12-month stipend and funding for travel. More details of these announcements will come later.

As you can see, we have so many things going on to elevate our excellence. It's going to be an exciting journey. Come soar with us!
