Bible Study with Pastor Jeff. 10 am in Room 208. All are welcome.

This Sunday in worship, we kick off our new sermon series, "Sizzling Hot Topics for a Sizzling Hot Summer," and the first sermon will be focusing about the church and politics.

Can we talk politics with one another? SHOULD the church be a place where we engage in political conversation? How do we bridge the great divide in our current political landscape? We'll explore more of this dynamic on Sunday.

Check out Pastor Jeff's video as he talks more with us about what's happening at Asbury this week. Look forward to seeing you this Sunday at 9 and 11 am!

Men of Asbury - looking for some fun fellowship time? Come join our Men's Breakfast at 8 am on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays in the Library.

Bring your own breakfast, either purchased elsewhere and brought with you, or you can pop something you've brought from home in the microwave, or you can just enjoy a cup of coffee and conversation. We'll have a couple of pots of coffee prepared beforehand.

Ladies Night Out: Sunday, July 7 at 6 pm

This one's especially for the young women and Asbury moms in the house! Join us for a Ladies Night Out the first Sunday of each month at 6 pm. In July, we'll be meeting at the Minsky's in Prairie Village (click here for directions).

We'll enjoy dinner and conversation and have a chance to click the reset button before we start another busy week. If you have any questions, please email Dawn Schnake. Thanks!

Make a Difference in the 2024 Election! Become a Voter to Voter Ambassador

Become an Asbury Voter to Voter Ambassador and make a difference in the 2024 election. Here are some things you can do to help!

  • Identify 10 people you know, friends, family, fellow club members, etc. who are low propensity voters. These voters are identified by public records.
  • Using Voter to Voter tools, work with these voters to make sure they are registered correctly and then actually vote. This can be done how you choose: email, text, phone, etc. No cold calling, robot calling, postcards, or other annoying methods.

Voter to Voter is about building relationships with voters. Statistics show IT WORKS! "The messenger is more important than the message." Training will be provided on how to use the Voter to Voter tools.

Contact Julia Cotter, Asbury Voter to Voter Ambassador Team Leader, by July 8 for further information or to become a team member. Julia's contact info is 913.660.8160 or juliaacotter@gmail.com.

Topeka Justice Encounter: Saturday, July 27

Join us for a Justice Encounter in Topeka!

When: Saturday, July 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Where: Asbury-Mount Olive UMC (1196 SW Buchanan St, Topeka, KS 66604)

Itinerary: Trip to Brown v. Board of Education, Lunch at Cafe Quetzal, and Panel on Legislative Advocacy

The Great Plains Mercy & Justice Team has been developing a series of Justice Encounters to provide intensive one-day or multi-day experiences with both domestic and international partner sites for learning, reflection, and action. Past Justice Encounters include Border Immersion in March 2023, Civil Rights Immersion in July 2023, KC Epiphany Justice Encounter in January 2024, Oklahoma Racial Justice Encounter in March 2024 (which Rev. Jeff and Rev. Daekyung attended), and a Civil Rights Immersion again in June 2024 (in which Asbury member Elaine Hager participated).

These immersion experiences are meant to build relational networks of clergy and laity across the Great Plains as we build beloved community together. All Great Plains United Methodists and friends are invited to the journey through justice movements of the past and present in Topeka this summer.

We’re planning to leave from Asbury at 7:15 a.m. on July 27. If you’d like to join us, please let Pastor Daekyung (daekyungk@visitasbury.org) know by Wednesday, July 17, so we can arrange carpooling. Thank you!
