As we wrap up the summer months, I hope everyone has had the chance to relax and enjoy time with family and friends. The Oakland City Council will be back in session in September, and I'm looking forward to rolling up our sleeves and continuing the work to make our city an even better place to live. Your voices and concerns remain at the forefront of our efforts, and I’m eager to reconnect and address the important issues facing our community. I’m looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish next!

Warm regards,

Council Member Jenkins

Connecting with Community at National Night Out

I had a fantastic evening at National Night Out in my district. It was a true joy to connect with so many incredible residents from the Havenscourt, Yuba, Kingsland/Best, Normandie, Rainbow, College Court, and Eastmont neighborhoods. Events like this truly highlight the power of community and the importance of staying connected. Thank you all for coming out and making it such a great night!

Coliseum Revamp: Uplifting East Oakland's Future

As a proud representative of East Oakland, I couldn't be more excited about the future we're shaping together with AASEG’s bold vision will transform the Coliseum. The redevelopment of the Coliseum area represents a monumental opportunity for our community. This isn't just about buildings and businesses—it's about creating lasting economic opportunities that uplift East Oakland families and future generations.

 Back-to-School Vibes

I was thrilled to see the first day of school in full swing across East Oakland! 🎒📚 The energy was incredible, from the bright-eyed kids at East Oakland Pride Elementary to the returning students at Skyline High. It was a day of new beginnings, and I’m so proud of our community and the bright future of our young people. My office teamed up with the Golden State Warriors and OUSD Superintendent Kayla to warmly welcome our students back. It was the perfect start to an amazing school year! Go East Oakland!

Seminary Avenue Paving Project Survey

OakDOT is soliciting input on an upcoming paving project for Seminary Avenue. The Department of Transportation will repave Seminary Avenue between Foothill Boulevard and Sunnymere Avenue in 2025. This project gives the City a chance to make important safety improvements on Seminary. The project will also continue the work of the LAMMPS (Laurel Access to Mills, Maxwell Park and Seminary) Project (Phase 1 and Phase 2) along MacArthur Boulevard, whose goal is to connect the Mills community and the surrounding neighborhoods to the Laurel District. As part of early outreach, the City wants feedback on what type of bike connection to build on Seminary between Camden and Sunnymere: Seminary Ave Bike Connection Survey (open through Sept 15). To learn more or sign up for project updates, visit the Seminary Avenue Paving Project webpage.

Heal the Town: Black Leadership in HIV Awareness

Thank you, East Bay Getting to Zero, for the incredible work your organization is doing to address HIV stigma and work toward zero HIV transmissions in the East Bay. The mural at 57th and Bancroft is a powerful and beautiful celebration of the Black community's role in this effort, reflecting the spirit of "Wellness is the Vibe" and "Heal the Town." I’m proud to have it in our district.
