Happy summer, Providence, and a very happy Fourth of July!
I'm thrilled to share the latest summer edition of the Providence—A Work of heART brimming with exciting and enthralling arts events to elevate your summer. Below you will discover a plethora of performances by local talents and various artistic opportunities.
The Fourth of July celebrations would not be the same without beautiful fireworks. While the bursts of color are delightful to see, we need to remember that fireworks are explosives that can cause serious injury and property damage if mishandled. To have a safe and enjoyable celebration, please adhere to fireworks safety tips here. Additionally, not every member of the family enjoys the festivities. Follow the Fairfax Animal Shelter's guidance to help keep your companions safe during the holiday.
Most laws passed during the 2024 General Assembly session in Virginia became effective on Monday, July 1st. Key changes include updates to speed limits, election result certification, polling place accessibility, transportation safety, solar programs, emissions inspections, firearms regulations, opioid policies, towing rules, electronic meeting guidelines, and other areas. You can find more information about these changes here.
Lastly, in observance of Independence Day and the Mosaic Live concert series, our office will be closed on Thursday, July 4th, and Friday, July 5th. Team Providence will be at Mosaic on Saturday, July 6th from 5-7 pm if you need to connect with us. Otherwise, we look forward to returning to regular office hours on Monday, July 8th.
Let the shows begin!

Artists receive 100% of the proceeds. The exhibit honors Karen Free, a Pathway Homes resident, and artist who passed away in 2011. The gallery is open for public viewing in the South atrium at the Fairfax County Government Center (12000 Government Center Pkwy, Fairfax, VA 22035). Though he can produce powerful music, Orpheus is powerless to save her from the snake's venom and she dies. Heartbroken, Orpheus descends into the bowels of the Underworld, seeking his love once again. Can their love conquer death, or will Eurydice be left to waste away in the Underworld?

A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare
July 11th & August 1st
Shakespeare’s tale of lovers who evade parental rule and city law by escaping into the forest, only to be transformed by mischievous fairies. Reality and illusion interchange in the woods, as do love and hate, clarity and confusion. As the tricks are reversed and the couples reunite, we delight in their wedding entertainment provided by a set of amateur actors.

Hamlet by William Shakespeare

Prince Hamlet is a reluctant hero with impossible choices. Returning home after his father's death, Hamlet is unsettled by his mother's speedy remarriage to his uncle. When the ghost of Hamlet's father appears and reveals that he was murdered by the man who now wears his crown. The ghost commands Hamlet to murder Claudius in revenge. But can you trust a ghost? Hamlet fakes madness while searching for the truth. He's surrounded by faithful friends (or are they friendly spies?), an anguished court, and a troupe of oddly relevant actors. This revenge tragedy brims with intrigue, trickery, heartache, and more than a little humor.
