BLACK AND WHITE FILM PHOTOGRAPHY

Students will learn to develop and print their own photos in the darkroom using film. Learn and practice documentary, landscape and portrait photography. Additional $20 fee covers chemical use only, due to the instructor on the first night of class. Students are responsible for their own film and paper costs. *Please note students should have a film camera. The instructor asks students to bring a completed roll of black and white film to develop and their camera on the first day of class. Ilford HP5 400 Black and White Film is the preferred roll of film.

INTERMEDIATE WATERCOLOR

This class is for students who have experience in watercolor or have taken our Beginner and Beyond Beginner classes. We will take the study of value in composition further, learn basic drawing methods, and focus on painting simple still lifes from life. Participants will provide their own supplies.

BEGINNING DRAWING

Learn the basics of drawing with local artist Katie LeCocq. We will learn the foundational techniques of taking what you see and representing it on the page using graphite. Participants will learn to set up a composition, discern what type of graphite pencil hardness to use and represent light and shadow to make their drawings come to life with dimension and visual interest. Additional $15 material fee due to instructor.

PAPER QUILLED DAISY EARRINGS

Learn basic quilling techniques while creating 3D paper quilled daisy earrings. You will learn the quilling techniques needed to take thin strips of paper and create beautiful daisy earrings. Also learn about paper sealing options so your earrings can last for years. No experience necessary. Additional $5 material fee due to instructor.

ACRYLIC PAINTING STUDIO

Explore acrylic painting techniques and color mixing through still-life, landscapes, or abstraction. Techniques include underpainting and glazing using mediums/additives. UPCYCLED RUSTIC PLANTER

Create a beautiful planter reminiscent of old French pottery. In this class, you will transform a plain terra cotta pot into your own unique planter for use indoors or out. We’ll use Fusion Mineral Paint, transfers, molds and air-dry clay and will cover multiple techniques including dry brushing, applying transfers and making molded embellishments. The approximate size of the pot is 8-10 inches wide depending on availability. Additional $20 material fee due to instructor.

We'll cover all the steps, from prep to finish, as well as review the many ways to refresh and restyle your home with a pot of paint, a few basic tools, and some imagination! INTRO TO BATIK DYEING ADULT SUMMER CAMP

Come and explore this ancient technique of painting on fabric. Batik is an Indonesian technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to whole cloth. Batik uses layers of wax and dye to produce designs on fabric. Learn how to prepare your fabric, apply wax-resist, paint with dye and finish your piece. Leave with a beautiful one-of-a-kind scarf. Additional $20 material fee.

PAPER QUILLED BUTTERFLY GREETING CARDS

Ready to experience something completely different? Learn how Mitch Lyons' unique printmaking process changed the way clay can be used. You will be working from a slab of clay, adding layers of colored clay slips, pastels, textures, and imagery. From this the monoprints will be pulled. Even if you’ve never worked with clay or know nothing about printmaking, you’ll be excited to learn how to pull your very own clay monoprints. All levels welcome. Please feel free to bring lunch. Additional $30 material fee. Student supply list (optional): apron, cottage cheese / yogurt plastic containers for slip, any textures or stencils, etc. you would like to use.

Mount and frame your own work of paper art or photo while learning preservation techniques for a professionally finished work ready to hang on the wall. Participants will also have the opportunity to try their hand at cutting a custom mat if time allows. Additional $25 material fee due to instructor.

Unlock your creativity at one of our NEW Full-Day Art camps this summer! The camp will be filled with creativity, art, and fun and taught by experienced teaching artists from The Art Studio. With different weekly themes, campers will participate in two different art workshops in the mornings. The camp will be jam-packed in the afternoons with recreational games, gym, or outdoor time.

$240 per camper. Materials included in the cost of camp. Limited financial aid is available for full day art camps. Camps take place Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Extended care is available from 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. for an additional $40 per camper per week.

Join us for a creative date with your budding artists! Caregivers and children will share in creating a masterpiece alongside one another while exploring art in a fun and imaginative environment. Each class will feature a new holiday or seasonal project and an opportunity to explore a different art form. There must be at least one caregiver per child. Additional $10 material fee.
