Pet of the Month
Our Pet of the Month is Woo Woo, ID # A237045. She is a 2-year-old spayed Siberian Husky. She came into the shelter as a stray on April 4. She went out on Adventure Paws and loved walking, running, hiking, and cuddling. She is a staff favorite! She’s not your typical Husky, she is relaxed and quiet, but she will “woo woo” you when you tell her what a good girl she is. She walks well on a leash and gets along great with other dogs.
Her adoption fee is only $20! This includes a microchip, vaccinations, deworming, and spay.
To learn how to adopt Woo Woo, or discover other cats and dogs available for adoption, visit Animal Services today!

Memorial Day stands as a holiday to remember and honor our fallen military heroes. I celebrated the day with the City of Farmersville at their annual Memorial Day parade. The community turned out in droves to enjoy the parade and honor veterans. Thank you to all who have served and to the families of our fallen.
There were two additional memorial services I attended in May. The Sheriff’s Office hosted the annual Peace Officer Memorial Ceremony and recognized officers throughout Tulare County from 1889 to the present. The End of Watch Roll Call is a moving reminder of the price paid to protect our communities.
For the first time, Caltrans Central Valley District 6 held their Highway Worker’s Memorial in Visalia. Since 1921, 193 Caltrans employees have been killed on the job. As you drive this summer, please help keep roadways safe for workers and first responders by staying focused on driving, slowing down in the cone zone, and moving over for vehicles on roadsides for emergencies, road work, or motorists with their hazards on.

Happy Memorial Day!
Like so many throughout the Tulare County community, I took time to remember and honor our fallen military heroes this past weekend. I was invited to speak at the celebration event for the new City of Tulare Hometown Heroes Program. This memorial project honors our local military service members by displaying banners, including their photo, throughout Tulare through Veterans Day on November 11. The banners are up now and can be seen on Prosperity Avenue between Hillman and Laspina.
Many communities throughout our county honor our veterans in this way and I’m proud the City of Tulare has joined the list.
If you are interested in honoring a veteran with a banner in the City of Tulare, please visit the Military Banner Program page for information, pricing, and contact details.

At the beginning of this month, I was proud to attend the ribbon cutting for Madson Gardens, a new supportive housing community managed by Up Holdings. Funded through Project Homekey, the development is for individuals in need of housing and offers supportive services through the Tulare County Health & Human Services Agency. The Kings/Tulare Homeless Alliance and Housing Authority will support the project with housing vouchers. I look forward to seeing how this new community will help some of our most vulnerable neighbors.
May is also Mental Health Awareness Month, and the County recognized the importance of mental health in a few key ways. The Board of Supervisors presented a proclamation to raise awareness, HHSA shared local stories through the Untangling Roots – Cultivating Wellness and Recovery video series, and we partnered with the Visalia Rawhide to highlight mental health at their May 10 game.
If you’re struggling, don’t suffer in silence. Reach out to a trusted friend, family member, or mental health professional. Help is available 24/7: Call, text, or chat at 988 or call 1-800-320-1616.

May has been a bustling month filled with activity and community engagement. As we approach the end of the school year, I had the pleasure of attending several end-of-year program events, celebrating the hard work and achievements of our students. With graduation season in full swing, I urge everyone to exercise caution while driving in school zones to ensure the safety of our young graduates and students during this busy time.
I extend my gratitude to the HHSA Public Health Department for their awareness campaign in this area. Their efforts are visible through the numerous lawn signs across Tulare County, reminding us all to drive safely.
Additionally, May also brought us Memorial Day, a time to honor and remember our fallen heroes. I had the honor of attending and speaking at two major Memorial Day events in Woodlake and Dinuba. It was a profound experience to join our community in paying tribute to those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom.

I’ve started my annual visits to communities around District 5 for “Town Hall” events. These are great opportunities to give general county updates and zero-in on projects, plans, programs, and issues specific to each community. While I’m accessible any time via e-mail or contacting the Board office, these face-to-face meetings are extremely important. There is no better form of communication than meeting and speaking directly with one another.
Some meetings will involve Department Heads and staff and others may just be a Board Representative and me visiting with a few community members. Either way, we truly listen and value your input! I met with a small group from Terra Bella recently and plan to return with additional department representation. I also just returned from a very nice visit with the residents of Kennedy Meadows, which is the most removed community in the extreme southeastern corner of the county. Below is a list of the upcoming Town Halls this year. Please join us!
- June 13, 3:00 p.m. Terra Bella Elementary School
- June 28, 2:00 p.m. Camp Nelson Fire Station
- July 18, 3:00 p.m. Hot Springs Capineros Hall
- TBD Porterville Veteran’s Memorial Hall
- Oct. 10, 4:00 p.m. Springville Veteran’s Memorial Hall
