Dear Friend,
I am thrilled to announce that Arm In Arm is renewing our impactful partnership with Capital Health for a second year. As part of Capital Health’s Trenton Neighborhood Initiative and its LIFE Program, together we will continue to decrease food insecurity in our shared community, while increasing access to foods that provide better nutrition.
The expansion of Arm In Arm’s Mobile Pantry model was created in response to the great needs we saw in the community. As most of you know, we wanted to reach more food insecure Mercer County residents. We envisioned partnering with other organizations which would provide clients with additional services they might need. Essentially, we are working together with more partners, in more places, at more times, and in more communities to help families thrive. Our partnership with Capital Health as part of their Trenton Neighborhood Initiative is a perfect example of this vision in action. In the first year of our partnership, we provided food with a retail value of more than $500,000 through more than 6,000 visits to our Mobile Pantries at Capital Health sites. The numbers and the impact are growing! With their support, and often with the aid of their volunteers, our Mobile Pantry provides food to their patients, as well as to those living near their facilities, serving more than 150 households per week at different Capital Health locations. We have collaborated with Capital Health’s Dialysis, Nutrition Education, and Obstetrics departments as well as their LIFE Program, to provide healthy food for their patients and families in need. As patients receive medical education, treatment, and care, they also receive healthy food provided by Arm In Arm.
I am so grateful to Dr. Eric Schwartz, who serves on our Board and is the Executive Director of Capital Health’s Institute for Urban Care. He was instrumental in helping us to bring this vision to fruition and shared the following with me, “Anecdotally we are already seeing positive health indicators in our patients, and we believe that long-term this investment will not only yield greater individual health outcomes but lead to a healthier more vibrant community. Capital Health invested in this partnership through our Trenton Neighborhood Initiative - the goal of which is to make a lasting impact on addressing social determinants of health in our community. We couldn’t be more pleased with the results so far.”
We recognize the importance of cultivating and engaging partners who are invested in this work and in this community. Together we are discovering where needs are greatest and how best to serve the community. I am very grateful to Capital Health, our Board, our other Hunger Prevention program partners, and to all of you who provide financial and in-kind resources, as well as volunteer support. Together we are keeping our Mobile Pantry on the road, serving those who need it the most.
Sincerely,
David
