THIS WEEK: Dog Days of August

Are You Leashed or Free In...Deed?

"Territorial Terrier" nips and follows the nose that was bred to rat out small game which just happen inhabit our land in plenty.

This necessitates a leash while her Labradoodle and Rotshepherd sibs get to roam freely.

The guilt induced by this life-is-unfair scenario drives us to put little Belle on a dog-line tied to a on one-pound barbell for walks. It gives her a measure of freedom.

Sometimes we leave the weight off and she doesn’t realize she’d be free to take off. She never does.

When Jesus sets us free, we are free in…deed. We are free to do all of the great works for which we were created. But do we always realize how much liberty we’ve been given?

If there’s anything that makes us hesitate, we need only to think of Belle who hasn’t figured out just how free she could be.

PORTAL TO HEAVEN: We were “bred” with specific talents and abilities for the specific purpose of glorifying God and nothing should hold us back.

“You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”…The 72 returned with joy. They said, “Lord, even the demons obey us when we speak in your name.”…For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
