Greetings Aquila Families,

We were so happy to meet so many of our incoming kindergarteners and new families yesterday at Popsicles with Principals, and can't wait to see everyone when you come to meet your teachers from 4:00-6:00 PM one week from today, Thursday, August 29.

Classroom placement letters will be mailed out next week and busing information will also come via email.

If you have questions about either, we will be happy to help when you're here to meet your teachers on Thursday, August 29.

Paz,

María & Olivia

Ms. Mia is Aquila's Office Assistant. She is looking forward to another year working at Aquila. She also drives the school bus. Outside of Aquila, Ms. Mia loves to be with her grandchildren and family. When she isn't cooking a homemade meal, she loves Jimmy Johns and Caribou.

Mrs. Johnson is excited to continue to help students, families, and staff as Aquila's Administrative Assistant. When she is not at Aquila, she enjoys traveling, being outside, and completing home projects. She is a fan of all the great restaurants around St. Louis Park.

Attendance Line

It is important that you call Aquila's attendance line each day that your child is not attending school.

Please call 952-928-6507 each day your child will be staying home due to illness or other reasons.

Please state your child's name, teacher's name, date of absence, and reason for absence. Thank you!

Aquila Birthday Treat Policy

At Aquila Elementary School, we ask that you not send food treats with your child to recognize their birthdays. The reasons for this are:

  • To minimize disruption to the instructional day.
  • To reduce the contamination of food allergens inside the classroom for students with allergies.
  • To create an atmosphere of equity among our students.
  • To minimize sugary or unhealthy treats and their impact on our students during the school day.

Please be assured, classroom teachers will continue to recognize their students’ birthdays in special ways. For instance, teachers may have a special birthday song, birthday dance, birthday necklace or other item to recognize their students’ birthdays. Students will also receive a birthday pencil in recognition of birthdays and half-birthdays (for students with summer birthdays). Parents may opt to donate a puzzle or game to the classroom, or donate a book to the media center or classroom.

Please do NOT send individual food OR non-food items (i.e. pencils, erasers, stickers, etc.) for classmates. If sent, individual items will be returned home with your child.

We thank you for your cooperation as we work together on behalf of all of our children.
