April 4, 2023
Greetings!
Mark your calendars for Healthy Kids Day at the Y on May 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This free, annual event features a variety of family-friendly activities to encourage healthy kids, healthy families and a healthy start to the summer season!

Kids and families can enjoy free games, activities, group exercise demonstrations, healthy snacks, raffles and prizes, local vendors and community partner booths.
Come early and check out some special community partner booths! Safe Kids West Oregon will pass out free bike helmets to the first 300 families in attendance. Oregon Paddle Sports will give away free life jackets to the first 200 families at the event.

Intentionally held each year in the spring, Healthy Kids Day sets youth up for a summer of success by creating healthy habits they can continue while they’re away from the classroom. Come have fun, learn something new and make connections with others in our community.
From the Ground Up — New Y Construction Update
Can you believe the new Y construction is over halfway done?! The project continues to be on budget and on schedule to open December 2023. Some of the exciting progress includes:
  • The roof and decking work continues on the south face of the new Y. You may notice the crane moving steel around the site in the next month.
  • Workers are currently installing the roof joists above the cardio section of the PeaceHealth Wellness Center. The decking between the roof and the 2nd floor will be installed by mid-April.
  • The roof joists and metal roof decking over the gymnasium will be mostly installed by the end of April.
  • The plumbing for the showers in the locker rooms is currently being installed.
  • The wood frames for the pool walls are being built. The pool walls will be poured by April 10.
  • The metal studs for the group exercise rooms on the 2nd floor will be installed by April 14.
We'll continue to give you updates here and on social media as we head toward our grand opening!

Congrats to our most recent LIVESTRONG at the YMCA Class
The 2023 Spring LIVESTRONG at the YMCA class kicked off with an awesome group of survivors! Each student is dedicated to improving their health, reducing their risk of cancer recurrence and finding strength and community at the Y. One of our students was even able to share information she learned in our program about reducing risk of Lymphedema with a member in her community. We could not be prouder of the work they have done or happier to help them on this journey!
Keep an eye out for our Pinwheel Garden!
In 2008 Prevent Child Abuse America introduced the Pinwheels for Prevention® campaign. Pinwheels are a reminder that we all play a role in children’s lives. Look for our blue pinwheels in front of the Y soon!
Feeding our Neighbors
Little Free Pantries around Eugene, including the pantry at the Y, have been emptying quickly. Our community needs our help! If you can, bring a non-perishable food item (or two!) when you come to the Y and help keep our community nourished. THANK YOU!
Your Y is older than sliced bread!
Founded in 1887, your Y has been serving Lane County for 136 years! Join us in celebrating our birthday on Saturday, April 22. Stop by the Welcome Center on our birthday and sing us "Happy Birthday" to receive a free guest pass!
