This edition of the newsletter is chock full of even more information and opportunities than usual. We encourage you to keep your highlighter and calendar close.
The full-size newsletter insert includes the It’s My Money article which discusses medical debt, 2024 SeniorPalooza information including an invitation to our May 3rd Walk as One at 1 at Russ Nature Reserve in partnership with Greene County Parks & Trails, and the June 6th Yard Sale flyer which also notes the drive-by drop-off dates for your consideration.

Lastly, you will find an invitation to schedule a medication review with a State Board Certified Geriatric Pharmacist. This service, available between May and September, focuses on identifying potential fall risks & interactions and promoting fall prevention and potential strategies related to managing chronic illness such as hypertension, diabetes, Parkinson’s disease and dementia. This is made possible by Ohio Healthy Aging grant funds administered by Greene County.
Healthy Aging funds are also being used for programs related to nutrition, wellness, and digital literacy. And we are excited to soon offer online classes on our website which will provide seniors and caregivers even more opportunities for learning, connecting and exercising our brains and bodies. Keep watch for more information!

Total Solar Eclipse
in Ohio
|
A once-in-a-lifetime event happens Monday April 8, starting just before 2pm and ending before 5pm. Local officials are warning of lots of traffic from out-of-state. Schools will be closed that day, parking lots will be full, and gas stations could run out of gas. Plan ahead for April 8: make sure you have gas in your tank, cash in your pocket and food in the house, stay home if at all possible, and get your eclipse glasses. A total eclipse of the sun won’t be visible again in Ohio until 2099. Fingers crossed for no April showers!

Tai Chi is widely recognized for its health benefits. Research has shown that people who complete the program are half as likely to fall, and have less fear of falling.
This class for beginners will be held Mondays & Wednesdays from 10:30 am to 11:30 am at Abiding Christ Church, 326 Dayton-Yellow Springs Road, Fairborn, April 10 — May 20. There is no charge, but space is limited. Register by April 8th. For reservations or more information, contact Jeff at 937-376-5486 x112 or jeff.s@gccoa.org. Click here for a flyer.

Congratulations to Our Artisans
|
Thanks to the community for coming out to support these talented seniors. Special thanks to the 33 artisans, including 11 new artisans who submitted 56 pieces, 12 of which sold. We asked guests to choose their favorite pieces (a difficult task), and the top vote getters are: Mary Gale’s George Washington’s Bed, Barbara Singerman’s Lumbering From the Watering Hole and Jennifer Eddy’s Festive Tree. We also want to thank our friends at the Fairborn Art Association and the Fairborn Senior Center team for their partnership. We look forward to another wonderful show next year!
