CCHF CONFERENCE RECAP
April 7-9, 2022 | Cincinnati, OH
Every year, members from Esperanza’s clinical and administrative staff travel to the Annual Christian Community Health Fellowship (CCHF) Conference in Cincinnati, OH. Like-hearted disciples in healthcare from all over the United States gather together to hear, encourage, and inspire one another to seek God's kingdom in the communities they serve. The 2022 theme, “Count It All Joy,” centered around finding hope, rest, and healing in the healthcare industry in the midst of a global pandemic.
This year, our Community Health and Wellness Department (Debra Ortiz-Vasquez, Director of Community Health & Wellness; Lianette Pappaterra, Community Programs Manager; Maryann Salib, Associate Medical Director of Community Health and Wellness; and Anna Cole, Community Programs Coordinator) presented a workshop titled, "Equitably Extending Our Reach: Employing Community Members to be Our Hands and Feet in the Communities We Serve." The session highlighted the success of EHC's Community COVID Ambassadors program — which developed in response to COVID-19 fears and misinformation — and covered details about other community engagement models utilized throughout the course of the pandemic.
Esperanza's CEO, Susan Post, lead an encouraging Bible study titled, "The Rushing of Rain," which covered the story of Elijah in 1 Kings 18. Susan spoke about God's faithful promise to Elijah to deliver rain in the midst of a drought, and the steadfast faith of Elijah to hear the rushing of rain when there was yet to be a cloud in sight. MURAL DEDICATION IN KENSINGTON
Keys to Change, painted by Phillip Adams
Last week, we gathered with leaders from Mural Arts Philadelphia and IMPACT Services at our Kensington health center site to dedicate the mural, Keys to Change. The mural blends a floral background with camouflage and depicts a winding pathway that leads to a home. Collectively designed and painted by Phillip Adams and a group of veteran artist assistants from the Kensington Community, Keys to Change addresses the experience veterans have when reintegrating into the civilian community after service. The mural resides on the side of our Hope House building on H Street between our Kensington health center site and new Community Wellness Center. We are honored to house such a meaningful piece of artwork and are delighted by the beauty it brings to our community!

NATIONAL MINORITY
HEALTH MONTH
This year's theme for National Minority Health Month, “Give Your Community a Boost,” highlights the continued importance of COVID-19 vaccination, including boosters, as one of the strongest tools we can use to protect our community from COVID-19, which has disproportionately affected communities of color.

NATIONAL INFANT IMMUNIZATION WEEK
The week of April 24-30 is National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW). This year is a critical year to ensure that families stay on track for children’s routine checkups and recommended vaccinations following disruptions from COVID-19. A Center for Disease Control & Prevention report (CDC Report) released in May 2020 found a troubling drop in routine childhood vaccination because of families staying at home. On-time vaccination is critical to provide protection against potentially life-threatening diseases.
