Welcome to our newsletter for Madison College Student-Athletes and Coaches. Our hope is that you can learn and be inspired and encouraged to carry out Madison College’s commitment to diversity, equity, community engagement, and inclusion. We believe that understanding and respecting all cultural perspectives, experiences, beliefs and values within our athletic department and college, is paramount for creating an environment where we can individually and collectively thrive. We are devoted to inspiring change, educating our community, and advocating for all people.

KNOWLEDGE & NETWORK

Student-Athletes attended the last ONEPACK event of the school year. ONEPACK is Madison College's Athletic Department framework to build a welcoming and supportive athletic department by creating safe spaces for constructive dialogs, educational programming, and community engagement. April's event featured guest speaker James Grugan, founder of Five Star Hiring, a staffing agency specializing in placing current and former student-athletes. The workshop focused on resilience, dealing with adversity, transferable skills, networking, preparation, and being intentional. Student-athletes were then able to use what they learned during the Mix & Mingle event in the WolfPack Den immediately following the workshop. Thank you Mr. Grugan for sharing your expertise with our student-athletes!

CELEBRATE CULTURE

Holi is a popular Hindu festival celebrated as the Festival of Colors, Love, and Spring. It celebrates the eternal and divine love of the deities Radha and Krishna. Additionally, the day signifies the triumph of good over evil.

Experience lively performances, indulge in delicious food, and participate in exciting activities, including the tradition of color splashing!

Join us April 25, from 4:00-7:00pm starting in room D1630 at the Truax Campus. We will be walking to Unity Park near the baseball field for the main activity!

RSVP to the event in WolfPack Connect to get your free t-shirt.

A Madison College premier event, the pow wow is a Spring tradition held at the Truax Campus. Come to the Redsten Gym on Saturday April 27th. Doors will open to the public at 11am. Over 20 vendors will sell their wares in the Gym. The Native American Student Association (NASA) is sponsoring a Taco Stand between 11am-3pm in the Cafeteria. Silent Auction items can be bid on at the NASA table. Grand Entries will be at 1pm and 7pm. Grand entries are the start of the pow wow when all the dancers enter into the Gym. It provides us the first opportunity to see the various dancers, the styles, and hear the drummers singing. A powwow reminds us to remember our past, celebrate our present, and build our future. As we celebrate the achievements of our students, it is important to recognize the communities to which they are a part of. Any student, staff, faculty, or community member is welcome to attend. Admission to the event is free. Sponsored by the Division of College Culture and Climate, the Intercultural Exchange, the Native American Student Association along with support from numerous campus offices, this truly is a community gathering.
