Platte County Federated Women’s Democratic Club

The April meeting of the Platte County Democratic Women’s Club was at Big Shots Bar and Grill. This was a fun event rather than a business meeting. Discussion included celebration of the success of the March 30th Sweets Auction in Platte City. The consensus was we should do this again next year.

Northland Democratic Club

The Northland Democratic Club met on April 16th at the ACA Club. This was primarily a business meeting. The next meeting of the club will be on May 21st.

Platte County Democratic Mass Meeting

The Platte County Democratic Mass Meeting, the first step in electing delegates to the Democratic National Convention to be held in Chicago in August, was held at Renner Elementary School on April 18th. Seventeen delegates were elected to represent Platte County Democrats in support of President Joe Biden at the 6th Congressional District Meeting to be held on May 9th in Marceline, Missouri. Delegates to the Democratic National Convention and Missouri’s representatives to the Democratic National Committee will be elected at the State Democratic Convention in Columbia on June 22, 2024.

Platte County Democratic Central Committee

The Platte County Democratic Central Committee met on April 25th at the KCPD North Patrol (a week later than usual because the Platte County Mass meeting was on the regular meeting date of April 18th). Plans for Music and Mimosas were discussed including thank you to Melissa Hickman for making arrangements for the music at the event and reminders for follow up calls to Unions as part of the preparations.

Other business discussed included:

  • Tyler McCall announced that Biden/Harris signs will be available via Jackson County. Jackson County has ordered 250 signs at $4.75 and plans to sell them for $10 each.
  • The Missouri Democratic Party Rural Caucus has requested a $50 donation toward a large tent at the State Fair in August. The Central Committee approved this expenditure.
  • Keith Sutterheim announced the Apple Blossom Parade in St. Joseph on May 4th and asked people in Buchanan County to participate. He has purchased a banner for the parade.
  • The Amplify MO Grant needs a bi-weekly report on what the money is being used for. Treasurer, John Kirchmeier volunteered to make the reports.
  • The ongoing search for an Election Headquarters is continuing. Discussion was about process and time frame. The Committee agreed that if a suitable location is found a quick email to the committee and executive would sufficient to proceed.

Initiative Petitions

Initiative Petitions

More than 380,000 Missourians sign initiative petition to put abortion rights on the ballot • Missouri Independent

Reproductive Freedom petitions (look at all those boxes!) that were submitted to the Secretary of State's office. Signatures were from every congressional district and every county in the state! The fight isn't over, folks! This is just the beginning of reclaiming our rights and putting it on the ballot...BECAUSE...👇👇

The anti-women rights groups aren't going to stop: Anti-abortion groups say more aggressive approach necessary to stop Missouri amendment • Missouri Independent. They know they're on the losing end or they wouldn’t resort to blatant lies, disinformation and harassment.

Another great achievement was the submission of over 210,000 signatures to place the issue of paid sick days and a $15 minimum wage on the ballot via the Healthy Families and Fair Wages initiative petition. Group turns in signatures to put minimum wage hike, paid sick leave on Missouri ballot • Missouri Independent
