COVID-19 Update

Dear San Mateo County community, I hope this finds you well. In light of the dramatic changes in our community these past weeks, I want to bring you up to date on operations at Peninsula Clean Energy. In compliance with the shelter-in-place directive from the Health Officer of the County of San Mateo, we have temporarily closed our office and cancelled all in-person meetings through at least the next several weeks. Our employees are all working remotely, allowing us to maintain operations and continue to provide our customers with clean electricity. All major functions of our agency, Board of Directors meetings, interactions with partners, and service to our customers are able to proceed without issue. We do recognize that with more activities than usual taking place in your homes, your energy use may increase during this shelter-in-place period. To help some of our most vulnerable customers cope with current economic challenges, the Peninsula Clean Energy Board of Directors has approved a one-time bill credit of $100 to our customers who were covered under either the California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) or Family Electric Rate Assistance (FERA) as of March 20, 2020. EV program helps get another gas car off the road

Paul and Hannah Breslow really enjoy the extra torque an electric vehicle (EV) delivers to get up steep roads to their home in hilly San Carlos. But that is not the main reason they purchased their new Nissan Leaf. Paul, who works in sustainability, understands that transportation is the largest contributor to greenhouse gas in San Mateo County. Advancing environmental literacy in San Mateo County

In February, the Peninsula Clean Energy Board of Directors approved $210,000 for a partnership with the San Mateo County Office of Education to fund two environmental literacy programs: San Mateo Environmental Learning Collaborative Clean Energy Teacher Fellowship and Administrator Fellowship . These programs are part of the San Mateo County Office of Education’s Environmental Literacy and Sustainability Initiative. This initiative promotes environmental literacy and helps prepare leaders to integrate environmental sustainability and a climate ready mindset, across a school community's campus, curriculum, community and culture.

California Climate Credit

You will see a “California Climate Credit” on your next energy bill from PG&E. The California Climate Credit is part of California's efforts to fight climate change. It comes from a state program that requires power plants, natural gas distributors and other large emitters of greenhouse gases to buy carbon pollution permits. The credit represents your share of the payments from the State's program. For April 2020, the electric credit is $35.73. Because of this, your bill may seem lower than normal. Please visit:  www.cpuc.ca.gov/climatecredit to learn more about the climate credit. Customers who are on California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) or Family Electric Rate Assistance (FERA) rate plans as of March 20, 2020 will also receive a one-time $100 bill credit in April from Peninsula Clean Energy to provide relief during this economically challenging time. New employee spotlight

Mehdi Shahriari Senior Renewable Energy Analyst Mehdi performs quantitative analysis to support critical decisions for resource planning and energy portfolio management. He also performs in-depth analysis of power market operations and supports Peninsula Clean Energy in the areas of analytic modeling for portfolio optimization, risk management, and maintaining data systems. Mehdi received his PhD in Energy and Mineral Engineering with a focus on Energy Management and Policy from Pennsylvania State University. He holds master’s degrees in Geographic Information Systems from the Pennsylvania State University and Systems Engineering from University of Tehran.
