Mike Owen (Thomas Michael Alexander Owen)
It is with great sadness that the Kiwanis Foundation of Canada announces the passing of one of our directors Mike Owen. Mike lived in Sandy Hook, Manitoba. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Gimli and District and a former member of the Kiwanis Club of Winnipeg. He served as president of both clubs and as Lt-Gov.
Mike served on the Foundation Board for 9 years and was passionate and dedicated in that role. Mike was an advocate of environmental stewardship and instrumental in the implementation of the Foundations new Environmental Grant. He and his contributions to the Kiwanis organization will be remembered and missed.

The Kiwanis Foundation of Canada in its interest of supporting Children/Youth has Organized a new grant for Kiwanis Clubs that support the sending of Kid(s) to camp.
The KFC will provide an annual 50% matching grant of up to $500 for the benefit of Children and Youth.
Each Kiwanis Club in Canada may apply for this grant by providing the KFC the documentation that confirms they have provided funds to send a kid(s) to a summer camp. There are limited funds available for this grant. Proof of expenditures for youth/children that you have sent to camp must be received by the KFC with your request for the funding match. For example, if you spent $500, KFC will reimburse $250.
NOTE: Each Canadian Kiwanis Club may apply for this grant once per year.
Grants are available to Kiwanis clubs that contribute to the KFC $15 per member on an annual basis.
| Organized Youth Program Grants | |
The Kiwanis Foundation of Canada is providing an annual “Organized Youth Program” grant. When a club provides a minimum $1,000 donation to a Canadian youth organization (Boy and Girls Scout, Navy League, etc. ) the foundation grant of $500 directly goes the youth organization in the club’s name.
There are limited number of grants. The club will receive a copy of the letter going to selected organization that their donation has gone to.

A Major Donation by Cape Breton Golden K
The Board of Directors of The Kiwanis Club of Cape Breton Golden K,
voted to donate to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital's An Cala Unit refurb initiative.
The check for $18 000.00, which will be used to upgrade one of the rooms during this initiative, was presented on Monday, March 4th by members representing the club.

Terrific Kids is a student recognition program, created by the Kiwanis Club, that promotes character development, self-esteem, and perseverance. Students work with their classroom teacher and establish goals to improve behavior, peer relationships, attendance, or schoolwork.
A Terrific Kids Club requires a school contact and a Kiwanis Terrific Kids chairperson. A Terrific Kids recognition program can be sponsored by a Kiwanis Club, a Circle K Club or a Key Club.
New supply and activity kits are available to order annually. All adult advisors require a vulnerable sector background check. A minimum of 15 students is required to charter the club.

Today Brigden Public School held their first Terrific Kids assembly with the Kiwanis Club of Petrolia and Area, Ontario. Their “THOUGHTFUL BULLDOGS” were recognized with a ribbon and a certificate.

Mike Owen (Thomas Michael Alexander Owen)
C'est avec une grande tristesse que la Fondation canadienne du Kiwanis annonce le décès d’un de ses administrateurs, Mike Owen. Mike vivait à Sandy Hook, au Manitoba. Il était membre du Club Kiwanis de Gimli, district Western Canada et ancien membre du Club Kiwanis de Winnipeg. Il a été président des deux clubs et lieutenant-gouverneur.
Mike a siégé au conseil d'administration de la Fondation pendant 9 ans et était passionné et dévoué. Mike était un défenseur de la gérance de l'environnement et a joué un rôle déterminant dans la création de la nouvelle subvention environnementale de la Fondation. Nous nous souviendrons de lui et de ses contributions au Kiwanis.

| Envoyer un enfant au camp |  | |
Dans son intérêt de venir en aide aux enfants/jeunes, la Fondation canadienne du Kiwanis a créé une subvention à l’intention des clubs Kiwanis qui désirent envoyer un (des) enfant(s) au Camp.
La PFK offrira une subvention de contrepartie annuelle de 50 % pouvant aller jusqu'à 500 $ au profit des enfants et des jeunes.
Chaque club Kiwanis au Canada peut faire une demande de subvention en fournissant à la Fondation les documents confirmant qu'il a fourni des fonds pour envoyer un ou plusieurs enfants à un camp d'été. Les fonds disponibles pour cette subvention sont limités. La preuve des dépenses pour les jeunes et les enfants que vous avez envoyés au camp doit être reçue par la Fondation avec votre demande de financement de contrepartie. Par exemple, si vous avez dépensé 500 $, la Fondation vous remboursera 250 $.
REMARQUE : Chaque club Kiwanis canadien peut présenter une demande de subvention une fois par année. Des subventions sont disponibles pour les clubs Kiwanis qui contribuent à hauteur de 15 $ par membre sur une base annuelle à la Fondation.

| Programme organisé pour les jeunes | |
La Fondation canadienne du Kiwanis offre une subvention annuelle pour le « Programme organisé pour les jeunes ». Lorsqu'un club fait un don d'au moins 1 000 $ à un organisme jeunesse canadien (Maison de jeunes, Cadets des Forces armées, etc.), la Fondation envoie un montant additionnel de 500 $ directement à l'organisme jeunesse au nom du club.
Le nombre de subventions est limité. Le club recevra une copie de la lettre adressée à l'organisme sélectionné qui a reçu ce don additionnel de 500 $

Un don majeur du club Kiwanis Cape Breton Golden K
Le conseil d'administration du Club Kiwanis du Cap-Breton Golden K a voté en faveur d'un don au projet de remise à neuf de l'unité An Cala de l'Hôpital régional du Cap-Breton.
Le chèque de 18 000 $, qui servira à rénover l'une des chambres dans le cadre de ce projet, a été remis le lundi 4 mars dernier par les membres représentant le club.

Terrific Kids
(Enfants formidables

Terrific Kids (Enfants formidables) est un programme de reconnaissance des élèves, créé par le Kiwanis International, pour favoriser le développement du caractère, l'estime de soi et la persévérance. Les élèves travaillent avec leur enseignant et établissent des objectifs pour améliorer le comportement, les relations avec les pairs, l'assiduité ou le travail scolaire.
Un Terrific Kids Club a besoin d'un contact à l'école et d'un président Terrific Kids du Kiwanis. Un programme de reconnaissance Terrific Kids peut être parrainé par un club Kiwanis, un club Circle K ou un Club K.
De nouvelles trousses de fournitures et d'activités peuvent être commandées chaque année. Tous les conseillers adultes doivent faire l'objet d'une vérification des antécédents en vue d'un travail auprès de personnes vulnérables. Un minimum de 15 étudiants est requis pour créer le club.
La Fondation canadienne du Kiwanis peut vous aider grâce à la subvention pour la création d'un nouveau club de Service et Leadership.

Aujourd'hui, l'école publique Brigden a tenu sa première assemblée Terrific Kids avec le Club Kiwanis de Petrolia et de la région, en Ontario. Leurs « BOULEDOGUES ATTENTIONNÉS » ont été récompensés par un ruban et un certificat.
